Switch on Accelerator peddal on auto peddle box?
What is this switch for it appears tha tit would be activated when the peddle goes past a certain point
i am taking a wild guess that it is for kick back but i have no idea the manual peddle box is in now and there is no such switch...
thanks Justin

Think you're on the wrong track fellas.
Has your dash got a switch that says "Auto 4WD" (or similar)?
When you activate the dash switch and floor the accelerator, the switch
on the peddle box will temporarily activate the 4wd system.(As will using the brakes)
My 85 GL Tourer had this feature. You do not need the 4wd switch on the auto gear lever to be on for this to work.
Good for mud and snow!

do you mean an actual physical button on the dash?
the car was originally a manual and had an auto put in however i want the manual back so it is going in to the car,
The auto slipped like crazy so there wasnt any chance to prehaps light up the front end, so basically i wouldnt know...
so there wont be any issues caused by this not being connected..
in case i havent said the box is an 3spd auto, and the car is a dl ..

Yes it was an actual phsical button on the dash
and it did what i said in my post. The car is retired in my backyard.
I can take a photo of the switch if you like.
Can also scan and post the page from
original glovebox book that describes the use of the system.
I drove this car for over 100,000km,before putting 5 speed in it.
Still have the pedal box (with switch) in the shed.
84 model was different to 85 GL Touring wagon.

Just went and checked things out in case I
embarrassed myself.
Owners Manual states:
"4WD Auto switch.. when left "ON", changes the mode from FWD to 4WD
automatically in the following conditions...
When wiper switch is (on)...
When brake pedal is pressed...
When the accelerator pedal is fully pressed...
causing the kickdown switch to go on.
So I reckon we're all correct on this (youse more than me!)
Cheers fellas, Stu

im very surprised no one has mentioned the fuel cut on overun switch that is on the pedal of all fuel injected l serie,s cars turbo or not....even steve rising sun got caught with this one ....there is a micro switch on the accelerater pedal,in its own carrier, and has a small wheel on the tip , around 2-3mm in diameter, which is closed when throttle is off but this switch opens when the throttle is on...it cuts the fuel signal to the injecters when the l serie,s engine is over 2000rpm.with your foot off the throttle..thus creates an economical set up..ithis is how it was designed to run,if this switch is not set up on your fuel injected soobi..be prepared for higher fuel usage..and you
will notice it...cheers
