Yes but they don't go by ACTUAL weight they go by FACTORY SPECIFIED weight - which at the heaviest was 970kg so that is all you can use when workingout what size engine you can legally fit.steptoe wrote:I dunno if it helps anyone with engineering application but my Brumby was 1180kg as it stood on a weighbridge - step off and it is 100kg - still bit lardier than the 970 kg spec'd for them.

Engineering in NSW is not what it used to be but it is a long way from impossible.
VSB14-v2 ( National Code of Practice ) is being introduced in conjunction with the VSCCS scheme.
Basically a large number of the engineers from the previous scheme have given the game away, some of the old have remained and new ones are joining.
Not a lot has changed from an engineering point of view you just won't get one of the dodgey ones that sign off sight unseen anymore.
I have built this in my garage and am now nearing the end of the rego process

If you want to build or modify something talk to one of the certified engineers before you start cutting steel and spending money, the RTA won't advise you on how to build or modify a car but they could make life hell for you if you don't do it right.

15% power would mean that the std 73hp in a Brumby would be allowed to be 83.95hp. the lowest hp I can find on a EJ20 is 123hp which is an increase of 68%.brockharro wrote:i went into the rta and asked and she just gave me the form to fill out and said its in the 15% power increase and that was it and said im aloud to drive it on my p plates so happy days

I think you or she may have gotten the old 15% capacity rule confused.
The new rule says with in 20% power, well that's they way I read it.

123 HP on an EJ20 ? I thought I found EA82T figures only just matched those of EJ22 NA, may just have been the torques (as Clarkson refers to them as - erks me I can tell you )
Hey, Brock, what form did she give you, its title or form number down the bottom is good, blue brown or black print ? Who has to inspect the vehicle based on this form?
Now, turn around, get changed, and go back and ask the next person the same questions ..... see if you get same answers

I am looking at an L series wagon tomorrow and if all proceeds OK I can add this to the MY wagon so will have the 2 subaru's.
When I fitted the 2" lift kit to the MY about 9 years ago after much trying the end result was the lift kit needed an engineers certificate. End of story. No end of trying was going to avoid this so the certificate was payed for and obtained.
If I proceed with a lift kit for the L series I am guessing it too will need a certificate as I doubt the rules have changed in the last 9 years.
Looking back at the comments in this topic I seem to understand that with the new rules in NSW that with older engineers retiring etc non engineers that can demonstrate/prove they can provide certificate work are being allowed to do so. Bumping this back up. Just got off the phone with Sam from Bruce collins & associates in taree 65525277.
Roughly;
Ej20 turbo into brumby ok, ej25 turbo no go. As long as wrx brakes and master cylinder are used.
Was ok with a 5 stud swap and coil overs but the big issue is wheel track has to be +\- 25mm of rta data sheet specs of 1320mm. Unsure about L series control arm swap but would look into it.
Wheel width increase has to be 1.5inch or less. 17s ok if I can find some 17x6.5 rims otherwise stock 97-00 16x6.5 rims are fine. So no brembo swap unless anyone knows of some suitable 17s.
Exhaust and intake to be close to factory specs (cat in roughly same position and under 91 decibel) barring clearance and fitting issues.
Transmission tunnel mods and scalloping crossmember for clearance ok, use a ticketed welder
Aftermarket ecu or major emissions related changes (big injectors, turbo) needs an emissions test but if using factory ecu and close to factory specs from an Australian delivered vehicle all is good.
Roughly $1k maybe more/less all up.

Good info to know, but Taree is a 3 hour drive for me.
I'll have to ask the guy who will be doing my blue slip if I can register it first without an engineers cert, just so I can drive it to Taree, saves me a 6hr drive towing a car trailer.
$1000 eh? Last time I got Phil Scott to do my L series with an EA82T and it was only about $500. But that was just engine, I guess it costs more to include brakes ect.

Gannon, if you need to drive that distance you won't get it registered first - you get a pink slip , not an electronic one e-safety, the old paper one from memory unless e-safety now has permit facility. - done as a safety inspection following the guidelines for safety inspection - brake test pass, tyre tread above 1.5mm, lights work - inc the rear # plate lights, left front blinker
, seat belts, windscreen etc . the comment box gets the VIN and engine number written in it and then you go to RTA office for a transit permit stating start and end of trip, pay the fee etc
