After 12 months of looking...
I've finally secured a job!
Started on monday. Teaching with disadvantaged students. It's a real eye opener and quite sad too.
Looking forward to the years to come and the challenges that come with it.
That's my news of the week
Cheers
Bennie

Hehehe... No!steptoe wrote:Go Bennie !! You not making them sad are you ?
Gotta shift - now moving to shep, it's a bit painful since we had just secured a rental property in benders, so 2 weeks into it we've already got to break that lease But it's not a huge cost to do it, just annoying for us and for the agent - we haven't even moved in!steptoe wrote:Regular income yeeha. Well done. Cobaw Special School ? Close to home or you gotta shift ?
I already am - unfortunately due to the sensitive nature of the students I'm not allowed to talk about them or what they do. But what I can say is that they're looking for guidance, confidence, stability and role models - even if they don't know this themselves. They're a good bunch under all the layers they hide under.stilson wrote:I'm sure you'll find it rewarding in a number of ways.
Thanks Jules - they feel the same way, it's great and the team is very close and welcoming too. The students rated my milo making skills as the best they've had so far - now I've got to be consistent!TOONGA wrote:Congratulations Bennie I believe they have secured the right person for the job.
Yeah I realise this and the staff are there to look after each other, there's a pretty serious support network involved with looking after their staff.TOONGA wrote:I will offer one bit of advice; no matter what these kids throw at you, stay unbiased otherwise you will end up overwhelmed and burntout.
Next week I start my program - tomorrow what I'm getting organised is being discussed with the lead teacher.TOONGA wrote:Now get out there and teach:)
We'll see how we go, I could be doing a mechanical sort of thing with them as well - loads of room to move so the students are engaging and doing things that they'll learn about and retain - and more importantly want to come to school for.steptoe wrote: totally reckon you will be able to inspire them, most of them anyway
Yeah I'm sure this one is a keeper. Looking forward to getting stuck into it!thunder039 wrote:hope you enjoy the new job!
A rum would be better but I'll be there I'm sure. You bringing the brumby up or the lib? I'm guessing the liberty.AshR wrote:I'm up there visiting my folks on the weekend of the 18th, beer maybe friday or saturday night?

I'm sure I will. One of them has been impressed with Ruby Scoo. He's asked me about it as he's super keen on mechanics and picked up that she's not stock...revmax wrote:I bet you could teach them a thing or subaru.
I was interested that he expressed that so willingly... Just so long as it's not from the wrong people she'll be sweet
