Impreza/Liberty front strut differences???

I have Liberty front struts in my RX with the crossbreed brake kit and the spring base hits on the front edge of the strut tower on compression. I have a set of 97 WRX (light blue in colour, unsure of what brand) struts in the shed but they appear to be the same diameter as the Lib ones. Does it have to be standard Impreza struts or am I overlooking something?

I think I recall Impreza or Forester struts for the xbread conversion kit needs
