I lost my book and can't remember things...how much fluid does an ej22 auto hold.cheers...bill

not 100% sure on the ej22 but my ej25 holds about 9liters maybe 9.5 but you cant drain it all in one go needs to be pumped out, with fresh stuff going in due to the torque converter

Australian delivered 4EAT 8.3 ( 8.8 7.3) L (US Q, imp Q) for either the EJ20 or the EJ22, this is taken from the 92 liberty/legacy specifications of the 1992 FSM.

Would over filling it cause loss of drive at times...I can drive it but after 10 minutes it starts to loose drive but if I stop,turn it off and let it settle down I get drive back.then the same thing in 10 minutes again.

It shouldn't, from the sounds of it the bands are overheating causing the box to slip and lose drive.

what colour is the fluid and when was it last changed?

The fluid was darker red but its hot new stuff in it now

have you ever adjusted the bands?

or has it ever had a major service, eg the filter kit done?

No I have never adjusted the bands but was about to ask how....cheers for that...since I sufferd a little brain damage due to that opp I had I forget things I use to know really well.....I'll let you know how I go.

The torque listed in the specifications is 9nm (this is for step 5)
the locknut torque is 24 - 28nm.

I just hope when it goes in for a service, they don't tell you it needs to be replaced or some other guff.

I adjusted the bands a couple of small amounts but still loss of drive when hot.

How much did you ajust the band?

if you followed the book then it should not be a problem.

I would think that the box may be on its way out.

About half a turn......Zita did hit...well backed over a traffic island in our street once and I have only just had a close look and it looks like its dented the pan...looks to be right were the pick up is.maybe I'm grabbing at straws.I'll fix that and if no change ill need another good auto..........some days I wish we still rode horses

Vets cost nearly double an hour more than mechanics.

Fixed the car.it was a dirty filter inside the auto.$38 for a new filter kit

$38 dollars in comparison to 700+ for a second hand box.
