Dave we are going to be towing a trailer so we could fit in a jerry for you , as far as dollars for fuel you are going to need about $1700 give or take ,going on your fuel consumtion that is .
That would be based on a bit less than we did last trip in 2003 where we did a tad over 11,000 km , we arent going to go via woop woop this time {Birdville track :) }.

Under no circumstances can the bbq be the October weekend of the 5th to the 8th.
BATHURST. I missed way to much of the race last year.

Hmm.....I have heard that most of the petrol stations on the way over have LPG now. Makes a gas conversion sound pretty attractive. You'd certainly have a fair bit of change out of $1700 for the trip.

we should arrive a day or so before Bathurst , so we can watch that with you guys and could have the BBQ the next weekend , we would most likely head up to fraser for a few day and then head back down for the BBQ, so basicly the BBQ would be good for the weekend after bathurst :).

Is this actually happening??
If so,

- Who is going?
- What date is the actual BBQ on?

It's looking highly likely that I am going on a holiday to Queensland in October by aeroplane. I would absolutely love to can that idea and drive across in the wagon but really need to know if its going to happen :D

Hmmm... my new boss is going to love me...

I'm asking him on Monday if I can take 2 days off to go to Canberra, then toward the end of the year it looks like I'll be asking for 3 weeks . I've been there 3 months so far.

Surely the trip is doable in 2 weeks or less. I'm thinking of travelling out of convoy for parts anyway and keeping the BBQ as the focal point of the trip. Oh well, I have a while to plan for it.

I'm 3 weeks off in October. I figure roughly 1 week to drive there, 1 week to spend there, 1 week to drive back.
Subamike have you got a rough itinerary for the drive there ?

Not really doing up any itinerary for the trip , we will be heading through Norsman then across the paddock through Port Augusta up through Broken Hill across to Dubbo then up through Moree and dalby {nice chinnese restaurent there} and into Cabulture. We arent going to going hell for leather to get there as we have to young boys in the back and I prefere not to drive at night, I guess we would cover about 800 to 1000 klm per day.
would love as many to come allong for the trip but it will be as I said at our pace :).

Gee guys....what's going on. No posts here for nearly two weeks!!!! Time to start organising time off work OR....just quit. You need to get over to Queensland for the BYB BBQ. Don't forget, once you hit Queensland, accomodation is FREE. All you need is fuel and food (ahhmm. and maybe alcohol). If you can't get enough time off and you need to fly, I'm positive any number of us here can collect you from the airport (either Brisbane or Maroochydore) We are halfway between both. And, any number of us can provide a bed and I'm sure we can find a spare suby seat or two to put your bums in for the weekend.

Think about it and start planning and packing!!!!

Cheers
from Queensland

Well I have to do some serious budgeting and sweet talk the boss if I'm coming. I won't have much to bargain with, I might only get 2 weeks off.

If I do come, I will be making a lot of pace in the first couple of days. No point in driving across the country without visiting the NSW/ACT people either. I'll be skipping Adelaide and Melbourne (duh), but I'll be wanting to drop in on Canberra and Sydney before heading north.

Its all up in the air at the moment, I'll post back here when I've got a definite answer. Hell I don't even know what car I'm taking - I might not even own it yet!

Oh - and its big money too! I'll be setting my fuel budget at around $2000!

When is this BBQ thingo again? Im still interested... im just not sure if it's physically possible or not... would probably have to make a quick trip like Tim. The company i work for can't really function without me.

I might have a chat to you Tim about what your thoughts are on accomedation... fuel consumptions... and way your gonna drive.

I've officially pulled out today. Too much time, money and effort to go ahead with the trip. My conversion is looking in doubt too - I am thinking about selling off all my gear and cutting my losses.
