The EJ20 would fit between the frame rails of the MY.

However Dave is contemplating a full engine rebuild, and at what it looks like costing him it's the best option for now. Especially since it all looks doable for less than the cost of that EJ20.

Dave has had more than his fair share of bad luck with the hatch, I beleive he's running gearbox #5 no less, and in the interest of long term reliability the rebuild is the better option. Not saying there's anything wrong with that EJ20, the only real problem in comparing it to the EJ22 rebuild is the fact that that EJ20 is an unknown.
I beleive this EJ22 was a bit of a gamble in the first place too, it was the first available replacement on hand after the last one took a mouthful of water. After a rebuild it should be good for many years to come.

If it's a single cam then it definitely will fit in Hatch.
Probably not worth it though seeing as you could buy almost three EJ22's for that price. (and not have to bother frigging around cutting down wiring looms all over again)

I think the rebuild option is definitely the go :)

No need to reduce the engine capacity for more money. Sticking with the rebuilt ej22 idea.

Can u get head bolts as well Clint?

I going to get the drive line out of it as its a 4.444 manual

I just pulled a ej20G down & all but 3 case bolts snapped or were snaped

I threw the case away

As long as the gaskets are the "Torque once" type i really don't mind where they come from. It is a REAL big drama to have to re-tighten the head bolts... would require the engine to be removed again.

Went through my finances and im looking like being able to afford all of this as early as next weekend. I will have to check if this is ok with all partys involved first of course.

1. Need to know if this is fine with Jay(Vidler) to use his house next Saturday to pull the motor and leave the car there for a week (possibly 2, if shit hits the fan).

2. Need to check if WaggaClint is available that week to do it. Meaning week after next.

3. Need to arrange transport of the engine.... damn no mates with a brumby.

4. Parts will come from WaggaClint if he doesn't mind... mainly for convenience sake for him once the motor is apart.

5. Jay (Vidler) also will need to see if your still able to sort the clutch out for me and possibly tac weld my exhaust a little more to stop that rattle on the heat sheild.

I will have all funds needed for this on hand so i wont need anyone to fork out any dosh on my behalf.
