NSW Free rego check web site

Post by Cliff R » Thu Dec 27, 2012 7:23 pm

As of the 1st Jan 2013 NSW will be moving to a no rego label system.
I received a Facebook message from my Engineer for an RTA web site that you can punch a rego number into and up comes basic details of the vehicle the plates are attached to. This is to assist people to know if the plates on a car they are looking at are genuine or stolen.
I wanted MY1982 for the 82 model MY touring wagon but I cant as it is currently assigned to:

Your request has been completed successfully
Vehicle:
2003 BLUE VOLVO XC90 PANEL VAN WITH WINDOWS & SEAT/S - 4WD
Plate Number:

Great, an OVLOV :D

We've had the stickerless system in WA for a couple of years now and it's painful but I guess it's the way they are al going.

We have online license/rego check but I haven't seen all the details they you guys are getting... very cool

Maybe it is a member holding the plates for his MY from 1982 on the family runabout or his name is Mick Yobb and 1982 means sumptin' ? Bit like MY0351 on an old Datto :)

Nice choice of shape code description used by the blue slipper - sheer torment when trying to interpret what seem to be out of date or not up to date shape code descriptions, but not as bad as trying to allocate a colour code to a greeny gold colour - is it green or gold ?? The blue slip inspector has to choose the best description , then use the shape code such as PVW on the applicants form. Colour codes are two or three digits, so when customer looks at form they can't really comment that the inspector is either colour blind or indecisive :)

I must go check a few of my intended plate choices

They can call it "yellow" I called it baby S!@T brown.
This was my first car when I got my license in 1979. Mum and Dad bought it for me.
It was only good for 80 ks/hr as it was a 2 stroke 540cc beast.
Got me into more trouble as a 4WD than a road car.
I was wondering what happened to it. I even came across one of the sons of the people I sold it to a couple of years ago after I sold it to them in about 1981 to see if they still had it but no good. They sold it years ago.
Wish I knew where is was.......bit sad now.
At least it made it to 1993.

Just checked three options, two are good to go !

I am surprised that one arm of the RMS use the last four digits of the VIN as a checksum security thing to prevent mistakes or maybe fraud and another arm gives out the last four digits willy nilly !

OK I have found some limitations .....

X You have exceeded the number of invalid requests.
X The vehicle details you have entered are not consistent with our vehicle records. Please check the vehicle details and try again.

The first is as a result of the second - entered a plate number that I swear existed, entered too many times in disbelief!
