Very nice Jonno... if the engine in my vortex had been in good condition it would probably still be in the but it was toast and I had an EJ22 and computer waiting to go in...steptoe wrote:The same day you say this Jules, I reckon I found the sweetest spot of my EA82T - pulling up an incline at 80k, 3000rpm in fourth , just tickling pedal @8 pounds of boost - effortless
So in the un-ending struggle to work out why people want computers in cars
(PJ had a fuel blockage so I crossed plug leads and made her backfire... blockage gone)
I have found that Economy mode / jurisdiction mode / California mode is on
some questions
1 am I grounding it when testing causing zero volts?
2 should I connect a 12 volt light to it and see if it lights up aka economy light, when I ground the light terminal?
3 Can I wire 12 volts to this wire to make it off?
according to my many FSMs the wire is either green blue or light green yellow, yet on my harness it is brown red with silver bands, WTF and yes I have triple checked that I have the right wire on the right plug... plug B127 pin 11 in the AU FSM plug B56 from here and the same plug in the US legacy manual.
Im getting ready to pull the computer and go with a carby dizzy set up on this motor as well.
ECUs are like females with PMS

So some more searching and quite a bit of reading later I've found this page http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic ... 9&t=136053 has some very useful information, not just for me but for anyone attempting a harness cut down for an EJ22.
I have found that to turn California mode off I need to connect (plug B127) pin 11 to terminal 12 on the engine plug called F26. (probably from the legacy FSM) I've not looked in the AU FSM yet to check the plug number.
So at some point tomorrow I'm going to find the right wire on the right plug and with my laptop set up, Im going to use my D5 ECU to determine if I can turn California mode on and off.

Grounding through the multimeter? if yes then my answer is no, it will create a circuit but not dirrectly to earth, so it will show voltage, if there is some there.TOONGA wrote:1 am I grounding it when testing causing zero volts?
I would not add and power to the ECU. Might need to study that wiring digram.TOONGA wrote:2 should I connect a 12 volt light to it and see if it lights up aka economy light, when I ground the light terminal?
Ditto as #2TOONGA wrote:3 Can I wire 12 volts to this wire to make it off?

Those pics remind me of doing Gleno's wiring... makes me love Dave even moreTOONGA wrote:has some very useful information, not just for me but for anyone attempting a harness cut down for an EJ22.
I think F26 refers to another connection on another page in the manual. Flick through the diagrams and look for that same F26 with the same looking weird design around the F26 number (does that make sense?)TOONGA wrote:I have found that to turn California mode off I need to connect (plug B127) pin 11 to terminal 12 on the engine plug called F26. Why would it be wired for 'california mode' anyway, did you use a domestic loom?
The trading corner : the stuff that I need ATM -

Yeah but the excitment of doing it yourself and having it actually work ...RSR 555 wrote:Those pics remind me of doing Gleno's wiring... makes me love Dave even more

The plug is B47 and is one of the 3 engine plugs, I just didn't look for it yesterday as I was busy being henpecked
Im not sure I want to tap into it either as it runs injector number 4 and is the positive feed. I'm thinking the ECU probably wouldn't like a constant pulse. (I'm thinking I would like to see what happens)
In the Automatic section of the AU FSM (section 3.2)the economy switch is part of the manual circuit and when on provides earth for a 12 volt feed AFAICT (in a very odd way very much like an Irish light switch)
both the circuits from pages 214 and 216 of the AU 1992 liberty FSM

If only I had another escort dizzy and an SPFI manifold

It is a domestic loom and California mode is the economy setting in Australia, if you don't use the wire you are constantly in Economy mode.nncoolg wrote:Why would it be wired for 'california mode' anyway, did you use a domestic loom?
I have used 3 different ECUs and in my laptop all 3 are running California mode.
Earthed or zero volts is California mode/ economy mode / Jurisdiction mode, 10-13 volts is power mode or California mode/ economy mode / Jurisdiction mode off.
I want to be able to turn it off and on.

I'm guessing by the above diagram that the economy mode (aka californian mode) is related to auto wiring looms only?
Keen to know "just in case" I need to look into this on my loom
And what exactly is the advantage of turning this mode on/off as wanted?

Bennie yes it is in the auto loom, the advantage is you get power mode and economy mode which are 2 different map settings for the injectors (from a Subarino thread somewhere on the board)
I is just one more thing I need to sort out on jetcar along with the neutral switch and the AT/MT mode for the ECU.

So is this system usable with a manual gearbox?
I would have thought that this power switch would have told the TCU to hold the gear for longer in the auto box. It'd be interesting to know if it could be used with a manual, not that you really need any more in an EJ22'd L series/vortex!
Cheers

^ 4wd? Rear LSD???
If it's a manul 4wd check to see if it's actually an AWD with the locking centre diff - I'm still mad keen for another one of these boxes!
Rear discs also come to mind. But I'm guessing it's only a 2wd model other wise you'd have a pile of bits in your shed from this right about now...
Cheers
