It's a subi - how long's a piece of string?

Seriously if it's been looked after it'll be right for a long time - it really comes down to what you're comfortable with and what sort of k's it's done in terms of long country drives or short stop start city driving it's whole life.

My 5c anyway!

Hi Julian

I am in the same boat, looking a buy a Subaru again. I am looking at similar year outbacks to what you originally said. Any reason you have gone towards a liberty over the H6's?

Hi mate.
Where did my old L series get to? Did you end up selling it before leaving for overseas?
I haven't decided anything yet, but looking at wagons and I've never had a 6 cylinder and the H6 seems to have most of the bugs ironed out by the mid 2000s. Still need to keep an eye on accessory belt bearings but otherwise a decent car.

I'm going to test an MY04 H6 outback this week that is coming up on 150,000 km. Is there a major service entailed with this? I don't mind changing all the fluids but what
else does the book say?

Lastly, are the bearings for accessory belt the same part as found on the earlier series 6 cylinder?

Yeah I had to sell the L Series. that car was brilliant but I could not organise a way to keep it in storage for 2 years. I sold it to a bloke who loved it, so hopefully it is still running and being used and looked after.

As far as the rest goes, I have no idea trying to trawl through forums myself to learn as much as i can.

I'm glad the car went to a loving home.

I'm checking out that H6 outback tomorrow, but a one owner 2000 forester with the same number of km (around 150-170K) just popped up locally and would likely be half the price.

I'm tempted to go the bigger and more powerful car, but at the same time a more frugal small car would also be welcome.

Now I am conflicted! Advice please?

Well again it comes down to what you want from your vehilce...

I'm sure the foz owners will tell you they're a great vehicle as would the outback owners. The foz seems to have better approach/departure angle but I would say that the outback has more cargo room in the back. To me that's the trade off - but I don't own either vehicle.

As for the H6 - well, personally it'd be screaming out for a dual range manual conversion like the one that Hydrowill has done

Cheers

Bennie, if I wanted a real car I would buy back my L series turbo!

Forester was a POS. Rattled and squeaked, bearings in wheels and underbonnet tired and noisy, stank of cigarettes and peeling paint.

Driving out to see the outback tomorrow, stay tuned.

Fair enough! I can see the appeal to one of these - but then again, I'm not biased at all!

There's always a reason for the price!

Bennie the L series is a great car, though if I were to buy an older Subaru I might have looked at a few utes.

I actually bought a car today so at least I am...

Do you know anyone who can help with the badging information?
I need a quick guide, and not have to read through a big list of accessories and options.
We have a late model forester but I want to buy the old body forester with low km for our second car. I figure that the xt is quite up the scale, and of course Luxury means just that...but S3, x, and all those other little alphabetties are a mystery to me. Is there a short cut to working out what you are getting on say, a 2006 or 2007 model?
Is there somewhere I can find out which year that body shape was at its best?
I can't seem to post any where cos I am a newby....please help?
Carlina

Hi Carlina.
You would get much more information from this forum by starting your own thread, perhaps in the introduction section.
You might even like to see the members' rides section and see what others are driving.
WELCOME!
