Subaru forester "05" clutch replacements
Subaru forester "05" clutch replacements
Hi guys, im going to start firstly by saying im new to this website and also I am not very mechanically minded although I do know a few things here and there!
Anyways my clutch played up and is due for replacement. This is only my second car and I don't have much of an idea of what costs to expect and what questions to ask the mechanic?. Ive heard I most likely have a duel mass kit (drives real smooth, like im on the clouds) and if thats the case its apperently going to be an expensive replacement.
Iv had quotes ranging from $1200-$1700..
$1200 for a standard clutch kit and $1700 for a more higher performance kit.
I wanna go for the standard as I don't hoon around anyways but I wanna make sure im not getting ripped off and get full performance for the amount I pay.
So really what I want to know is what are the important key questions when arranging new clutch kits with mechanincs.
thanks in advance

I had a local travelling mechanic do it for $800 cash and a case of Jack Daniels. Incl. parts. That was for a HD clutch on a 2000 forester. Sounds like you need to get friendly (beer) with/for the local mech.

Otter the 2004 Outback with all the fruit.

Possible Improvements: Rigid 12db Phone Aerial Fitted, Air-compressor w/ Hose & Air-Tank, Jerry Holders, Lift, Nudgebar and Spots?

I've just had quotes for my MY06 clutch replacement. (Quotes incl labour)
From Subaru $1800, for single mass including flywheel machined. They stated only the single mass kit for the MY06 is in their system. Even though I’ve heard reports that some people found they had the dual mass.
From another mechanic using subaru parts, just shy of $1800 for single mass with flywheel machined. If dual mass then just over $2700.
From the information I have gathered so far the dual mass is there to reduce vibration/noise. However have also been told there is hardly a noticeable difference, especially if using AT tyres. Reading on the net, there are lots of differing opinions on what is better.

Look on http://www.exedy.com.au for clutch kit info. Ask around for price for clutch kit, labour would cost you 4-5 hours depend on the mechanics.
