Yep, the O2 location is settled. Just past the crossover pipe on dizzy side. run the lead up under manifold with the oil pressure lead. Sensor will be about 260mm from the exhaust port and have the possible benefit of some fumes coming from the other head via the crossover pipe.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Had to order EFI hose (thanks Bennie). 8mm. HS motors in Ringwood do a quick and easy post.

Spent yesterday cleaning up electrical connections in readiness for the added loom. Relays for thermo fans, earth leads everywhere. After its all done might invest in an auto elec to tidy it all up.

Well I am getting a little excited. Have a trike club run on the 3rd August then it's full on with the install of the SPFI.

Today was spent with the SPFI loom and where it will go in the engine bay. With a plan it will look smick, so I endeavored to place it in the ideal location. You cant really loop a one inch loom to take up slack and besides my early radio technician training tells me not to loop wiring anyway- as current can transfer like a coil, actually creating a coil in itself.

O2 sensor arrived so got to get the bung welded next week. Single wire is easy to extend.

Finished tidying up the other electrics. Ordered a radiator fan sender switch for an Alfa 33 as the wizz digital unit created a fault. It still shows coolant temp but doesnt switch the fans on. I like simplicity so a sender in the radiator hooked up to the fans is almost failsafe.

After much reading of nearly every post in this site and USMB on the conversion I'm ready to tackle it. Bennie is 74 kms away and he'll here me yelling if I get stuck lol

Don't bother mate, I'm sure we can do something just as good (if not better!) than an auto sparky can ;) I'm happy to give it a go anyway!

Cheers

I've got everything ready for the SPFI system in place except for the O2 sensor bung that is getting welded tomorrow morning.

The fuel lines and fuel pump are in ready to hook up (EFI hose El freddo!), return tank line, new PCV, warning light for ECU on dash, O2 sensor arrived from USA,

Waiting on a new O ring for the dizzy from frog. Install date Sunday 4th August.

passing time now before the install. Mounted 4 new warning lights. red for handbrake, yellow for thermo fans, blue for ECU and green for indicators. Indicators and handbrake already on the tacho dial but over the years have proven to not be bright enough. A few times left the handbrake on and realised it when stopped at lights doing a genie puff!!

My only concern is the yellow thermo fan light. dont know how to hook it up. I connected the +ve (on the led light) to 12 volt and the -ve to negative on nthe fans but you can tell when you are moving that the spinning of the fan without power to it creates a negative effect and the light goes on a little. when doing 100 kph it is fully on even though the fan power hasnt kicked in. ideas?

Do you switch your fans through a relay?
If so connect it to the relay control circuit rather than the fan motor.
If its directly from the thermofan temperature switch, you could use it control a relay.
Or a diode inline with the thermofan, it will need to be a big diode and you will loose some power from your fans.
The relay is more viable.
Or take the globe out.
If the fans are generating +ve to +ve and -ve to -ve its harder to sort out.
If the fans generate reverse voltage, then just connect the -ve side of the globe to chassis earth, or a diode in series with the globe.
L serious, still.

Of course tambox. the relays. yes there is one relay for each fan at the engine bay. will connect them there. thanks.

Looking good mate!

Got the wiring all laid out ready to go for August 3rd??

I bet you can't wait!

I should post some pics of the SPFI intake manifold compared to the MPFI manifold - I reckon you've got the right way for this conversion!

Keep up the good work!

Cheers

Would like to know and see the differences in the intakes Scott. Just for curiosity.

Yeh all set to go. Am really excited. Dont know why. Suppose I've read up so much about it and the efficiency will blow my mind, economy and clean exhaust.

I will likely have the complete supercharger set up for sale down the track. It has a SC12 in fair condition, blow off valve is a good one was around $280, the dellorto carbie plus one spare carbie, a complete water injection system and custom manifolds including the alloy one that was shortened by a pro. Still thinking about it. Funds to go towards the engine rebuild.

Be good for a sandrail?

Last week before conversion to SPFI. This is my spare engine to fabricate things on.

Today, heated up and bent some 8mm copper tube between the block and the thermo housing after El Freddo's suggestion to get around the bigger dizzy.

Image

The throttle body loom portion is now pointing the opposite way to allow for the rest of the loom to trail around the engine bay to the eCU.

what is convenient is that the air filter assemble on the sPFI can be turned around. So turned it 90 degrees. It now wont show from the back of the trike. It will point straight ahead and be hooked up to a 75mm blue extendable tube to the double air filter assembly near a vent opening.

This is going to be great. Hope it starts ok!!! (chewing fingernails)

Have you dummy fitted the dizzy to make sure that pipe is going to work? It certainly looks good!

I reckon once this is all done you should get a chrome pipe made up to make it look really schmik ;)

Yes it will be; and yes it will! Give me a call if you have any issues!

I'll get those pics uploaded soon and drop them on here ;)

No worries Scott. Thanks.

The dizzy wont be near it- checked it.

Here are some more pics. Been busy. Rotated the air filter top as told. Also- swapped a few valve cover breather tubes to run behind the manifold rather than up and over. Rerouted the hose from the rotated idle solonoid in front of the TB and the third one was the small tube off the other side breather that goes to the new PCV...all are now low and tucked in. The dip stick tube is firmly bolted to a bolt I welded onto a flange on the manifold. The dip stick tube was bent a little so it is easily accessible between the radiator hose and the throttle spring cam.

I plan to re-time my EA81 to 20 degrees (being the timing for SPFI) then stop the engine, put the rotor button on one cylinder. Take off the SC manifold and bits. install the SPFI. then it has half a chance of starting up.

Any other tips ?

Trying uSMB also. Can anyone tell me what the bolt block off is on the left side of the pic? Is on the other side of the EA82 SPFI manifold.
