Alternator wiring

Post by Tweety » Wed Sep 25, 2013 6:00 pm

See first pic. Its of my original Hitachi alternator

The bolt terminal goes straight to the battery. The "T" terminals shall we call them vertical T for the lower vertical spade and the top T for the horizontal spade.

In this case the outer top T spade terminal had a jumper wire to the Bolt battery terminal on the alternator.

Now I've purchased a mini Denso alternator on ebay. it looks like this installed.

Now the terminals look like this-

The "T" terminal (2) are not positioned like the previous alternator. ie how can I tell which terminal takes the jumper wire? The Terminals are not marked. Rang the supplier and he told me the alternators are off Toyota fork lift trucks and therefore just plug into those machines. he also provided these instructions-

yeh clear as mud. Doesnt explain what terminal goes where.

Can anyone shed light in where the jumper goes and where the other lead goes?

yeh Gannon, saw that to but did discard it as it didnt include a jumper wire to the main pole. But thinking again I think I'll make sure the wiring is similar to this. Thanks.

You don't want a jumper wire to the main post, else you will end up like the first part of the instructions says, 300ma drain = flat battery when not used for while.
Connect it up through the ignition switch so it turns the 300ma drain off, when the ignition is off.
Like the way a mini racing alternator is used for forklifts:)
L serious, still.

G'day -does that alternator have a reg built in? It sounds like it doesn't from those "instructions"

Cheers,

yes it has a regulator.

The _ part of the "T" is the ignition switch terminal and the l part is the light terminal based on many articles I've read. Still these terminals should be stamped or labelled. Being off Toyota Fork lift trucks they would normally just connect to the plug.

But if distributors are going to sell them not labelled then they deserve the non positive assessment on Ebay I just gave my supplier. He was trying to help but didnt have the knowledge to do so.

What was good was this site by Dayco Australia. They ahve a list of V belts that you just look up. in my case a 10mm wide (outer) and 770mm long V belt being 10A0770 belt. (A for auto). easy. ordered two.
