Info about my turbo

Post by Vortex75 » Tue Mar 11, 2014 12:39 am

I've got a EA82T in a 89 Vortex. Can anyone give me any info on this turbo? What psi do they run at? I have a manual boost valve but I don't really want to adjust it much because I have no idea how much boost it is running or how much it can handle. Thanks.

only a low pressure turbo as the journos call them - 6 psi. So depending on the accuracy of my figure there and boost gauge - you might see 8. Some boost to 10 without immediate problems. In the RX the same IHI turbos VF2 or is it VF4 have been shoved up to 16-20 psi range but not for longevity. I've been running my EA82T with IHI hairdryer at 12-13psi for a long time, don't often go there, feels strongest at about 8 - 10 psi anyway. I just have it set higher to stop the boost gauge needle (and power) fluffing aboutat the max if set at 8 or 10. My octane is a little more than 100 though rumoured 109 - LPG. I monitor the knock sensor - it rarely needs to pull timing back

Thanks mate. I like the hair dryer reference.
