1990 EA81 Brumby Alternator Question
1990 EA81 Brumby Alternator Question
The old brumby's alternator has given up the ghost, my question is what is the part number /model number on the alternator for my model brumby, the alternator I have has the label rubbed off.

Been to Repco quoted $302 for a new one but only 50amp rated is this sufficient torun a stock standard system.
Also tried local wreckers quoted $120 for one but no guarantee
There's a 4WD wreckers I haven't tried will try tomorrow
Wreckers aren't open here after 12 on Saturday and closed Sunday (because no-one would want to work on there car on the week-end would they?)

I checked our new one, don't know where it came from though, my cousin (lives in Toowoomba actually) got it for me. It has 2 numbers on it, 8910A and RXA036.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Tom.

think the RX number means a Reco eXchange
$120 for used no warranty !! Hell, Ill sell you one for half that with double the warranty !!
I used to buy used for $50 get a year or so of uncertainty
Also paid a bit more for a reco via a parts store chain and it died within warranty, too stuffed to be busy to claim at the time.
Tried an auto elctrician who can rebuild one ? Usually just as much.... try ebay..... there is also Ashdowns in some places, owned by repcos mother company but can be different pricing.
I used to also pull em apart and just shove another set of brushes in 'em - not Sube variety though.
Put up another post on how to rebrush an alternator, see if you get some help. Or have you a worse diagnosis ?The diode pack is often left in on those recos I reckon- it is another expensive inside item . I have one puts out 17V, another just 12V

Thanks Steptoe the one I have diode pack/regulator is stuffed nothing coming out at all changed brushes 6 months ago and still look good. The one on Fleabay is $75 has 3 months warranty and free postage has single pully and looks the same so will try my luck with that.
Thanks for every ones input

I have a 1988 Brumby one you can have for $50
You know you are getting old when the candles on your birthday cake start to cost more than the cake itself.
