Jaffa, good to hear your persistance has paid off in getting it there, but what a long drawn out affair it has been for you. :(

Will be good to see it back around again, cant lose anymore EA82T's from being on the road. :D

Well it has take just over 2 months to get the canary removed from the wagon, however after almost 4 hours in the at the tech and inspection centre we have a certificate that states that that the wagon is WA complianced, legal, rego’ed and now we are good to go.

The long version is after submitting the paperwork and being told that I would only have to wait 10 day I contacted them after 15 day to find out what was going on only to find that there was a 6 week delay due to staffing issues. Be arsed if I was waiting another 6 week without being able to drive the car when the defect was on a WA technicality. After consultation with management I was advised to bring the car in first thing. Expecting the tech/inspections centre to be a breeze, give the car is essentially factory standard, I could not have been more wrong. In the end they went over the lift kit and the ADR paperwork, the engine and then the breaks.

Give the car was lifted 50mm they decided that they could not tell if the car had been lifted more then 50mm,what if it was 51mm!?!?! I advised them to measure the lift blocks if they did not think that they were the original blocks and they stated that it was more then that what if I had changed the suspensions to longer struts and springs and IF this was the case then the car would need to go through further inspections. I think that in the end they passed it because I have had the authorization paperwork for it and they could not argue with it.

The engine was probably the easiest thing in the entire process 8O no questions ask here they did not even look at it, a brief look at the paperwork and a mention that the engine number at the time of the conversion is not the same as the current engine number. Once I explained the blown head and engine transfer it just went through.

The breaks on the other hand were a major pain in the ars. Despite being best breaks on the any L series they went over this and then attempted to inform me that due to it having drums as standard that it would have had some break valve, WHAT THE!?!?!? (anyone with info on this I will be willing to listen). Anyway after I informed them they that this sounded like crap and that there was no breaking performance difference between this and the RX sedan in the garage at home they asked if they could take it for a drive and REALLY test the breaks. As they would not have passed without it taking it for a drive I told them to go for it. After a good 15 minutes of joy riding in our rig they returned to the tech centre and were very impressed and passed the paperwork

From here its just internal issues. The tech centre does not do road worth inspections so it was back to the inspection centre to make sure that the mods were safe to pass a roadworthy. Once this was passed the they need to remove the yellow however needed to put a WA plate number on the mod certificate and this was not possible at this stage as I still had the Qld plates – see where this is going!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Anyway its on the road and we have a certificate that say sucked in to any police officer as all mods approved and the car is rego’ed in WA. The new boring (I mean WA legal) tint goes on next week. Let me tell you after this the car will not be changing states again that’s for bloody sure :lol: LOL.

Look like we will be bush again soon Dave, Andrew, Tim and Johno hpe you got ya shit together... the start of this year has been very poor, therefore ITS ON :twisted:

Great stuff Jaffa... by the sounds of things it doesn't matter what happens im never going to attempt to take the hatch over the pits as it is. Freaks me out seeing how many issues u have had with the minamal mods.

Good to hear your back on the raod... give me a couple of a weeks and i will be all in too.

Good stuff Jaffa, glad to hear it's back on the road and legal.

About the brake valve in the rear, I've not seen one on the Subarus at all but Holdens and Fords have them. Basically they hold a little bit of residual line pressure on the drums, this pre-tensions them and they apply much quicker than if the valve wasn't there. On swapping to discs this valve has to be removed because you don't want pre-tension on a brake caliper, this will cause brake drag (think heat, wear and noise).

Hopefully there won't be a next time.
