sorry can't say the same for the grille.. Just too bling as the car doesn't have any other bling on it, so it looks out of place. Just my opinion, so ignore me

Grille looks okay, a bit bling-y though with the rest of the car being not so bling-y

Thanks for the update on the bunny-hopping. You're right I'm in FWD all the time but then again my rear diff bush is literally not there any more.

I'm not sold on the grille either, but it can sit there for a while until i get another one.

Engine is on a boat at the moment, with a 12-odd week wait for it to turn up at the Import Monster warehouse in Melbourne. I think I have pretty much everything to freshen up the new motor, bar the valve cover gaskets which I'll order closer to the motors arrival.

New clutch fork and retainer clip, pivot ball, rubber boot and thrust bearing clips. Lillydale Subaru delivered to my door!

Hot pink for that STi look?

Keen to see how you dress this grille - it should look pretty awesome with the internal section gutted out if you get the colours right - I reckon it'll need a boarder around a matt black in the centre "scoop" area.

The result of today's prep and paint. The grill came first and has some marks from the filing and cutting. Could have used a little filler and done some sanding between coats. Took a bit more time with the wing. Quite a few coats and a light sand before the last coat, so it came up quite well. The fibreglass isn't straight but not much I can do about that. Lots of grinding, filing and sanding to get it to sit nicely on the car too.

All matte black

Can't be bothered with two tone and I quite like the subtle matte look.

Looks good mate! Loads better than that bling bling thing you had for a little bit there - I guess you had to try it out...

And that wing is a nice touch too - never seen one of those before.

Now all you need is a black snorkel to finish it all off

Had an exciting moment today. Came across this on the internet by coincidence while looking up part numbers for my valve cover gaskets. It's a clutch sleeve kit: http://www.neimportedparts.com/index.php
Worn or grooved gearbox "quil" (what the throw out bearing slides on) may be the answer to a number of issues my car has had since this g'box went in. Throw out bearing noise from the moment I put in this gearbox, years ago. Noise goes when pushing clutch in. Opposite to a failed throw out bearing, which was brand new when installed. T/O bearing replaced with DCCD install with no improvement. Shudder on clutch engagement, sometimes. Engagement point on the pedal constantly moving. Jerking on acceleration on/off or changing gears. Creaking on clutch pedal movement, despite lubing the pivot point (and pedal) and a brand new cable.

In prep to solve this issue when I do the motor change I have a complete clutch fork replacement kit and clutch waiting to go in with the new motor. Installed those mustache bar lock bushes. **** if all that didn't fix it I had prepared to move on to a different car because it really effects drive ability.

Never heard of this problem before, ever, and it is apparently common on all 5MTs? Anyway I'm buying it and a big fingers crossed the quil is the problem and this sleeve the fix.

Probably exacerbated by a lack of inspection plate and the housing area been full of dirt, mud and sand on numerous occasions over the years.

That kit, are you sure it's suitable for the dual range box that has a steel sleeve for the TOB to slide on? Single range boxes have the cast alloy to slide on, over time this is where the problems they list come into play.

I'm sure that what you're talking about is the same thing Phiz tried to eliminate in his outback. In my mind its the springs in the clutch disc - maybe not rated high enough so they are allowed to "bounce" at low speed, low throttle driving.

I believe this is where the detonation of Ruby Scoo's clutch started when it let go in 2011...

You're right Bennie the D/R has a bolt on steel quill. Finally found a picture in my archive!

Can see the bolt heads for it, just.

If it was just the bouncing clutch it would make sense, but I have the other symptoms to account for as well which the clutch springs don't explain. Possibly a combination of both. To be honest the worn quill didn't make too much sense to some extent because why has it lasted so long?! However if it was steel and wearing much more slowly then that would make sense, unlike the aluminum which looks like it gets destroyed pretty quickly. Maybe? Will get a replacement steel quill anyway. Beats paying someone to work this shit out at $80 an hour though and 99% chance they don't fix it.
