the spfi was a different kinda buzz wasn't it ? Those hoses are usually different to any other size of regular water hose you can get - like 7mm ID, so a near enough is good enough for a while until it starts to leak from 8mm ID, deteriorate coz you used fuel hose that norally not like coolant for years and years. Maybe old 6.35mm 1/4" will do ? Noticed some dude calls himself Mr Silicone or the like in UK does every size mm sili hose, but some is too thick a wall to be super bendy for some super subie hose jobs.

Started my dormant Brumby EA81 carby yesterday and today - it struggled, starter? made a noise like a broken con rod and now it sounds like it is running on fewer cylinders, won't even drive, I got further on the starter mootor in gear !! Too busy to investigate at the moment as the entire fuel system is being assessed to come out in readiness for an LPG transplant - petrol tank , filler out too (no, sorry Giles, must keep filler just in case).

yeh Jonno, all those wires on the SPFI....a challenge.
With the 1/4" hoses, like the piece around the dizzy to connect up the block coolant to the thermo housing the copper tube works well (thanks El Freddo)
Old Subaru's = improvising. Same with the tube under the manifold to heater hoses, replaced with real good hose + fittings till I got a new original tube from da Frog.

[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Tweety trike- EA81 (full reco 2014) 32/36 weber, SPFI manifold, 9.5:1 CR, VW auto.
It will be interesting to see how the hose works, I think it might be fuel hose
and it was kinda hard to bend into shape. Might order a proper one if they're available as I haven't added coolant to the water yet until I know it's not leaking.
Had to take a forced break from car maintenance as I became a father on Sunday.... 3 weeks earlier than planned! I was supposed to be getting the car running good beforehand so I didn't have to worry about it for a while!
Cheers

Just another update - I got a chance to do the CV boot this week so I finally got to test run the car. It seems to be running good but I'm still not convinced it's better than before. It's hard to say because it wasn't running really terrible previously - just a little bit of flatness during hard acceleration. And then I've had a couple of weeks where I didn't drive it.
I still think there may be a vacuum leak somewhere. I've been trying to set the idle mixture and I can't seem to get it right. Also, I can wind the mixture screw all the way in without the engine stalling. Is this normal? Someone once told me it should stall with the screw all the way in.
At the moment I'm just glad I didn't do anything to make it worse and at least I know the gaskets did need replacing anyway.
I'll get a few more kilometres under my belt and let you know how it goes.

Just wanted to put an end to this thread.
After driving the car for a few weeks with the new gaskets, it doesn't seem to have solved the issue. Still a bit flat on acceleration.
Interestingly, the idle was really crap the other day, like it wanted to stall. This is one of the symptoms that led me to rebuild the Hitachi originally. Anyway, I parked up and fiddled with the vacuum lines around the front of the carbie and the idle changed. Probably should have renewed these already but that's gonna be my next move. Strange that I never got any results spraying carbie cleaner around looking for leaks.
Thanks for all advice and help, glad I did the gaskets as they obviously needed changing anyway.
Cheers
