I agree with the idea of pre-heating the whole thing before you weld it, as welding it cold would put stresses on points. You would also need the correct rods/wire to suit this sort of work.
There is info on the net about how to pre-heat, pre-welding and how to weld it and what with.
Just remember, you are playing with the bit that holds the wheels on your car.
L serious, still.

For the plugs you could drill the original holes a bit larger to suit slighly larger rod rather than trying to get rod exactly the right size.
End of the day no cop would ever be able to tell by looking, nor would know/care that L's originally had 4 studs unless they're an enthusiast. But still, i'd rather use new hubs than modifying originals, its a better solution.

Blank hubs ?? where would you get them, or are you referring to using C----D's conversion kits ?

Yes that is what I am referring to. I run a pair of Cr0ssBread rear hubs myself, although I don't think he supplies them any more. RSR555 Paul has a line on getting similar hubs made I believe, and really anyone could get an engineering / metalwork place to make something up given some plans or an example. I have a couple of clients in this field, I should give them my hubs and see what it'd cost to replicate.

I think he's going with new ones Willy.

How have yours been holding up? Would they pass by an engineer's report without issue?

Cheers

Mine have been on the car for 10 years without any drama. I can't see any problem getting it engineered, I never bothered trying to get it done.

I have noticed interest in these adaptors from Australian members of USMB is there a machinist amongst us who wants to make some sets of the "Offroad only" adaptors up?

But using adaptors just reduces the 5stud advantage to being able to use 5x100 wheels. Pretty much the whole point of 5stud conversion is the substantial brake upgrade.

If you need the brake upgrade, some people just want the choice of 5 stud wheels.

That's a terrible problem AndrewT :o
You would never be able to sell the 5 stud hubs
Best if you just send them over to me and I will send you some way better 4 stud hubs in return so you can run some sunnies!
I'll even pay freight :D

The 5 stud swap is one thing that's holding me back from an EJ brake conversion - I'm "committed" to the scorpions

Those adaptors made of aluminium! Made to "internet standards"??? WTF??

Cheers

FWIW, there's a guy on USMB selling a pair of hubs (and ONLY hubs) from an XT6 for $300 US at the moment. No backing plates, no rotors, etc. I am guessing rotors could be obtained here with searching (otherwise import from rockauto for about $30 a piece, being careful to get rear AWD and not FWD), not sure on the backing plates...I think the X-**** kit used the XT6 plates modified, with Liberty calipers ?

The X-.... kit used liberty backing plates modified and liberty calipers. 300 dollars + shipping is expensive but Subaru would want way more if they had them in stock Ex Japan.

Havings just bought a L series with ej22, awd (sf foz box) and 5 stud cr00s**** kit with foz brakes Id say the brakes are the best part.
Cr0ss**** don't make the kits anymore unfortunately. Thus I bought a whole car, running and licenced for half the price of the kit.

Ok, so combining the last two posts. I can put modified SF Foz rear brake mounting plates, SF Foz rear brake calipers on XT6 hubs, on to a Brumby ? I have a SF Forester here I am wrecking, so with the XT6 hubs - and some new rotors - I have everything I need ?

Yes. You need to drill a few holes in the forester backing plate to match the the brumby bolt pattern. Rotate the plates a little for hand brake cable clearance before you drill. I welded some washers over the new holes for some extra "support" when I did this.
Don't forget to take photos of how the handbrake drum goes together in case you forget when reassembly time comes.

Thanks, sounds like a plan. Still trying to track down some rotors, the local Repco and Bursons stopped as soon as I said Subaru XT6, JDM and US only (Bursons at least said they would try to find something if I can provide the specs, Repco just gave up).
