The downer is that there's a dead engine fitted - it runs, but badly to say the least. How they drove this thing on and off the Ferry I have no idea!
I had a couple of ideas as to what the problem could be so that was the first thing I did once it was off the trailer - pull some bits down to investigate:
But nothing eventuated from that, it's a dead engine that needs to be replaced or rebuilt. The engine in there at the moment has a noise like a leprechaun with a jackhammer in cylinder one (driver's front cylinder if I've got my numbering correct from memory) and a smoke plume appears from the exhaust and under the bonnet from dodgy crank case ventilation pipe work as soon as you load up the engine to drive it - engine running is just plain nasty all round, I've never heard anything this bad before!
I'd like an original block and heads to keep her completely stock but finding one (just finding ONE at the moment) to rebuild hasn't presented itself yet. I'd rather put the money into the block I want to build than build one I don't really want long term or have a punt on the condition of rings and bottom end of another block I could purchase with a "yeah she's good mate" type credential.
Once finished investigating I managed to manoeuvre her into the backyard for a pic with her family:
Then into the shed until I can get more time to start some work on her:
^ Mmmm... smokey shed :/
In the meantime I really want to rip the interior out to give it a blast to remove the farm from her, give the underside a good scrub up and eventually touch up any surface rust present and see what else will need to be done suspension wise for a roady before she goes in.
Other bits I'll be looking out for is a new rear tailgate in white as the one on there at the moment is pretty banged up and the rear garnish is damaged, the tail gate has paint chips and dents at the top of the door where the gap between the door and the roof line is.
Overall I'm stoked to have another project on the go, this one will be a lot more short term than my previous ones if all goes well. The engine issue is the hold up
Cheers
