L Series EA82 distributor cap register
Given that it is only the EA82 that has given the problems of numerous distributor caps and their part numbers and availability ...surely it is time to set up a register and links etc of all the various caps we can identify along with rotor buttons.
To do it correctly pictures will help, measurements are also helpful, so too the part number of the dizzy including its manufacturer.
We have had EA82 carb, EA82 mpfi NA, EA82T and of the latter two a choice of 3 plug or 4 plug ECU
I can start it off by my 85 made, 87 compliance plated L Series GLTA sedan 3 plug ECU EA82T uses Bosch GH617 cap , rotor GH605
My 4.87 made Vortex EA82T uses Bosch GH623 cap
Other dizzy cap numbers genuine
22162AA000 for 1800cc NA MPI 3 plug ECU so dizzy has mech advance and vac advance
22162AA020 and 22162AA040 for 4 plug ECU NA MPI and TURBO
rotor part numbers look like 22157AA000 or 22157AA001
Some pics of GH617, GH605 and GH623 in here
showthread.php?t=19085&highlight=distributor
Further reading shows there is also a two module EA82 distributor ??
The part number of the dizzy would help this register TOONGA !
Luckily most EA82 dizzies share the same ignition module with the EI EA81 dizzies , still available new in Oz and USA
and here is also good three page thread on dizzy caps
showthread.php?t=21352

NGK BP6ES-11 at first, went for BP7ES-06
the -11 and -06 is the gap , I regapped for turbo LPG down to .06mm
Then afew have added to get them with the 5'8" hex to allow easier fitment of spark plug socket instead of shoving the 13"16" socket as they get caught on the isdes of mpfi heads ports casting so the part number changes to BCP or BCPR for resistor
Was sold on R for some reason, radio interference or ECU interference can't recall, then maybe i changed mind based on new evidence....
The R or not can make a big difference to EJ turbo operation, one gives trouble, the other doesn't ..but not up to that level yet

1989 L Series Touring Wagon mpfi just pulled apart
has a 4 plug ECU dizzy is Hitachi only based on cap fitted is HITACHI
22100AA450 part number
and D4P86-07 cast into it
, then A9203 in smaller stamping ,
the cap has a breather tower on the top with the towers for each cylinder, so too does GH623
I tried a Bosch packaged GH623 same as Trevors it is same dimensions as the HITACHI cap, is screw on not spring clips, is not same snug fit as genuine but reckon it will do the job. Listed as $20 on ebay etc at times cheaper than the genuine and worth a try at least
11/86 make date Touring Wagon EA82 carb had a denso dizy with part number not in body jsut on a sticker
22100AA390
Comparing NA mpfi and carb caps finished as soon as I realised carb cap was spring clip retained and the mpfui was a screw retained.
