Rear Hand Brake on an Ea82
Rear Hand Brake on an Ea82
Is it possible to have rear hand brake instead of front in an Ea82?.

Heard a rumour once that S13 Silvia rear calipers fit up to the RX rear discs, these do have provision for a handbrake.
I did however have a look at some of these once, off a turbo S13, and they were way too big to fit on the Subaru.
The only way I know of that works is to fit the Bratgeebah kit. This is overkill for what you want though...

It is possible, anything is possible really, however the amount of time, energy and most importantly cost its not worth the time/hassel.
Toyota 105 Series LandCruiser (that nobody on here wants to really hear about).

I'd be concerned as to it's vulnerability.
Suzukis and Series Land Rovers have a drum on the back of the transfer case.
Bratgeebah's brake kits would give you rear handbrake, I also seem to remember MechaWagon had one on his red RX Turbo?

Toyota Sprinters have the handbrake built into the rear caliper.
Though you're going to have fun finding these from all the Initial D wannabe's;)
XF Falcon's also have the same deal. Though the vented rear disc would be a bitch to fit.

there was a fellow on USMB that used a tojo caliper on his but it was using XT6 bits to do it but they are a solid disc I needed vented and larger for this car. the Liberty item is right for the cables but the mounting points are 180 deg out. I'm going to knock up a plate that mounts the lever to it and then to the OEM bolts. thats the only way I can see to do it neatly.
one other thing I did notice was the adjuster - the top of the bolt needs to be knocked off.

My Rally car has the conversion done, quite simple really. Just disconect and remove all existing handbrake cables and handel etc.
remove outer half of rear calipers and replace with ones with hand brake attachment from a mid to late 80's Honda Accord, also grab the Honda cables and hand brake lever etc as it is designed to pull in the right direction.
To make sure you get the right one just take one of your Leone and compare the bolt holes.
Hope this helps

Yes - honda part is a bolt on to existing backing plate etc. Apparently the story goes that Honda and Subaru used the same brake component supplier in the 80's - hell could still be the case today, I dont know.
Anyway, the Honda version on the Accord had the handbrake at the rear which is much more sensable.
You will need to change over the lever and cables and one half (outer half from memory) of the caliper to Honda stuff, I think their may be a simple bracket to make also but not sure - I will take some photos later this week when i get my camera back and post them up for you.

Yep honda lever, subaru used a "push" type as the cables go forward, honda uses a "pull" type as the cables go backwards toward the rear wheels, in order to retain the subaru handbrake lever you would need to either have some funky long cables or do some major work on the subaru mechanism, if indeed you can even modify it to suit.
If you are worried about the looks you might be able to cobble the two together to retain the subaru handle part?? not sure.
I get my camera back tomorrow so will hopefully post up pics on Thursday.

Heres some pics of the conversion - all parts from Honda Accord mid 80's
First the handbrake lever, this is mounted on a piece of RHS to get the allindment right for a rally car, not needed for road use but you may need to redrill mounting holes in tunnel.

Honda cables - with a bit of work these should hide under the carpet.

The Honda Caliper itself - has "Nissin 9CLP86" written on the top of the casting. It bolts up to the Subaru inner caliper and backing plate. You can see the handbrake return spring on top and the hydrolic (sp) lines on the RHS.
