TT auto ? off road

Post by seagull » Mon Sep 11, 2006 1:24 am

I know there was a post about autos off road but I could not find it

I have found the rear drive from my series 2 turbo auto is letting me down .I have a TT crash test auto in stock & would like some feed back as to the best way to do this .

The series 2 auto is very good apart from the lack of rear drive so I would like to mod that if I can .

It would be great if the ea71 manual gear box rear out put vacuum lock fitted up to the auto box .

mmm any one have an idea as to the above

seagull

Or should I just get an auto wrx box down

from least amount of coin to most...

1. fit a lock up switch to your current center coupling. will take you an hour and will give you maximum rear drive that your current coupling is capable of doing. this will be an improvement on what you currently have but still the clutches can only hold on so hard.. you eventually will slip them and they will burn. pm me for details on a lockup switch if you wanna go that way

2. fit a VTD rear coupling to your current gearbox. Al is the man to speak to about this, he has done it before. Its basically a bolt up swap though, you will need to make some changes to your gearbox xmember to accomodate the TT mounts though as they are different.

3. fit a complete TT gearbox. they are 4.44 ratio so you wont have to change your rear diff.

If you do 2. or 3. you will need to source an early WRX TCU to drive the center coupling. Your current computer would drive everyting on a
TT gearbox properly, except the center coupling.

the reason you need a WRX TCU is that the twin turbo cars have the opposite signal polarity on the the throttle sensor to what you have now. The early WRX has the same polarity, therefore will work with your current engine.

clear as mud?

edit: EA71 lockup center - no chance the manuals are completely different to the autos
WRX gearbox - theyre 4.11 so you owuld have to change your rear diff

Get an early TT box use the TCU from it and put it in your current ride. Although the lock switch fitted to your current setup will make you smile too.

pm me with your email address i will send you the info

basically if you want to test it out - just disconnect the dutyC solenoid. you will get a fault code but that can be fixed later if your happy with the lock..

Tt Tcu

I am not up with the wiring side. I do know that the TT TCU used with a Gen 2 NA loom will give locked centre diff when you put the FWD fuse in. I gather it is a bit more involved if you have a Gen 1 loom.
