EA82T Head gasket advice wanted
EA82T Head gasket advice wanted
I know there is plenty of stuff here about head gaskets, but I'm just after some general advice.
1. should I do the headgaskets whilst I've got the engine out ready to put in my wagon since EA82Ts are known to blow head gaskets (the motor has done 216, 000kms). Or just don't disturb them until it actually needs them?
2. If I do the head gaskets, is it advisable to get the heads milled at a shop before reassembly?
Cheers,
Tim

hi timmo, look mate im getting a turbo motor nexted weekend and i will defenitly be doing the head gaskets when the motor is out and all the seals etc... saves having to pull the motor out again when u put more boost in and the poor 20 y.o head gaskets go pop! saves time too... and i would definently get the heads machined aswell...its not too exspensive m8..
then when u have the head gaskets done u can with some confidence start playing with the motor a bit knowing that there done and will b ok forthe next 2000,000m m8 just my 2c worth cheers BEN

i have a problem....subaruitus
I enquired at the local subaru experts (R&C) about this some time ago...basically said if its a early jap import motor don't touch it unless really really sure. reason being that the gasket is asbestos based, of course new ones are nowhere near as good. Could explain why motor survived much overheating prior to replacing rad/water pump etc.
really really sure about what? My engine is from a aus 85 L sedan, but I cannot guarantee that it hasnt been replaced with an import at some stage in the car's history. I dont plan on turning up the boost or anything like that either - just wanted to get some opinions as mentioned above.fredsub wrote:I enquired at the local subaru experts (R&C) about this some time ago...basically said if its a early jap import motor don't touch it unless really really sure. reason being that the gasket is asbestos based, of course new ones are nowhere near as good.
