Biggest tires to go under '89 GL Coupe?

Post by vladrulli » Thu Sep 28, 2006 7:08 am

going to shop for winter tyres...

what is the absolute maximum I can go with for my '89 GL Coupe?

now this guy says that a 25"-26" should fit under the car with no mods... is that true?

I was thinking about going 215/70r14... is that too much? what would you recommend? :)

What he actually said is that you would need a lift kit to fit the 26'' tyres,I would be trying the 215 tyre first before buying as I am pretty sure they will still rub.
With a 195/70/14 tyre on a unlifted MY wagon these tyres rubbed in some circumstances.

that's what he's saying: "85 to 89 Coupes and RX's, you can fit 25" - 26" with no lift and no trimming."

I'm currently running 195/65r14 and I have a HUGE fendergap... :)
there are no tire shops around here that offer 215/70-65-60 and not even anything that has 205-r14 that's not low-profile so trying it on before buying is not an option... was thinking of ordering one set from eBay...

I would still not just go and buy them untill you have tried one or someone with an LSeries can confirm this for you either way as to what tyres they have had on theirs.

Am running new 195 75 r14, that equates to 25.75" or 654mm diam , with 2" lift, just rubs had to remove mudflaps. hope that helps.
Cheers,

I have 205 70 14's with 3" lift kit. The front ones rub heaps when turning on full lock.

hey guys I am currently running 195r14 AT's recaps only rub on full lock and the rears rub when under full compression eg going over a bump. I have no lift has of yet and all I had to was remove front mud flaps and fold some of the edges of guards out of the way with a BFH.

205/70R15 with 25mm longer control arms. Just the occasional scrape over large bumps, nothing major.

that looks nice... :)

is that with no lift?

why the longer control arms?

this is 0.45" bigger than 215/70r14 so I guess that guy on the website is not far from the truth... :)

is it possible that coupes are higher from the ground than the 4 door versions?

will have to take a couple of pics of the car to show you the current fender-gap and clearance...
