WA BYB BBQ Head Count

Post by BlackMale » Mon Oct 09, 2006 3:40 pm

Sorry about the new thread (we can get it deleted later) however I do not have the time I had last year monitor and do not want to appear to be keeping others out of this process so I have posted the head count on here so that other can view for easy access and conformation of final numbers.

As some of you know this final head count will be important as Jaffa will not wait past the departure time so it’s good to know who playing catch up ;-p

At this stage there are 10 cars attending Sat 14th Oct 2006, they include.
Jaffa.

This trip will take us a series of forestry tracks, fire lines and logging access roads between Lane Pool Reserve and Yarloop. The trip is approximately 330km return trip from Perth, and with a convoy of this size it could take us some time to complete.

I have already contacted CALM to make sure that the track is open for us to traverse (and it is). From memory I was sure that there is only 1 section that will pose any issue, there are no granny tracks around it (well there was not 1 when we did it) however it is not to significant and unlifted Subaru’s should be ok.

I also feel that I should warn you all of several things as our preparation has not been anywhere near as good as it has been in the past.

1. It has been at least 12 months since we recon this trip so fingers crossed it has not changed to much as a convoy of this size will be interesting to turn around.

2. All our map books n stuff are still packed and we can not locate them. When we recon trips we make adjustments to the notes about changes in trip and we now do not have access to this so fingers crossed we do not make to many mistakes.

3. I do not recall a place to have lunch however it is possible that it WILL NOT be near a town or shop so bring supplies/food.

The other change worth noting is that with this trip is that I feel that we will initially be bypassing the water crossing. The water crossing is not part of this trip it’s a side track before the beginning of the trip and the reason for bypassing it is that my concern is that someone will drink some water before the trip even begins and thus we will loose a day of driving.

As I said with a convoy of this size it should take us some time to complete the trip, however should we finish early there:
- Are more then enough tracks in the area to explore.
- A second trip out of Dwellingup that we have done recon for as well
- Someone knew of some tracks around Waroona (didn’t they Tim)
- Is the optional 90 achers visit on the way home.

Critical Information – Edit.

Meeting Time – Saturday 14th October 2006 between 09:00 and 09:28. This time will be for meet n greet, talking and photos. Departure is scheduled for 09:30 don’t be late.

Meeting Place – Corner of Kwinana Freeway and Mundijong Road. Once you take the Mundijong Rd exit turn left onto Mundijong Rd and on the LHS you will see a medium sized car park - this will be the meeting place. The entry/exit road for this car park is approx 100 meters along Mundijong Rd on the LHS. This location has been strategically chosen as there is a service station and food about 2 km’s up the road (at Baldivis Rd) and we will not have to worry about all of us getting out into traffic in convoy.

Terrain – Ball bearing gravel and rocks on forestry tracks, fire lines and logging access roads between Lane Pool Reserve and Yarloop.

Distance –330km’s minimum. Make sure you have a FULL tank of fuel before departure time. I will be carrying fuel however should you need it you will have to pay for it, those remote bush prices are expensive ;-)lol

Radio Channel – In the past we have used 17 as the primary and 16 as a back up. If we find on the day that we are getting interferences on these frequencies then an alternative channel will be sort. Remember the radio’s are our only way of communicating and with the lack of preparation from us and a group this big we will need to be able to communicate with each other – please remember this.

Weather – CALM has granted us access to the area rain hail or shine. Forecast is for fine and 23 degrees.
Toyota 105 Series LandCruiser (that nobody on here wants to really hear about).
RX Touring Wagon - fitted out for 4WDing (currently collecting dust).
RX Project - will be road only at this stage (and currently taking way to long to finish).

You have to wonder… If there are so many of you that can 4WD on both days then why are we not camping!?!?!?!?

Subarino the reason you were not a given is that I was unsure if you were available on the Sat and you had not confirmed where as the other had – hence their inclusion and no post here

Sic days/mental health day works for me. I did ask about the camping option and no one was keen a Sunday session would be good however i do not think that i will be able to attend. Your best option (i think) would be to start another thread about Sunday action.

Sorry guys, gonna have to pull out. Sorry to say it but I have other stuff to do... more important than a Subaru meet.

One of these days I might become a WA AUSubaru member again.
