Ej22 Extractors

I have been searching for a long time to try and find some suitable extractors for my 93 liberty wagon and am yet to be successful. Is there anychance that extractors designed for the 95 (gen 2) liberty with the ej22 would fit my car? It's a 93 liberty lx wagon (gen 1)

Yeah... I was reading it and was like 'what? subarus have y-pipes already, or am I wrong?'.

The EJ22's have two exhaust ports per head, extractors would differ from factory headers in that the runner length of each port would be longer and more even.

Not worth it at all. The only header mod I'd do on an EJ22 is swap an EJ20 turbo header pipe, uneven length headers give a nice boxer sound.

Equal length headers actually make healthy power gains on the ej motors and is probalby a good step towards getting power out an atmo ej.
Try finding MRT on the web they make equal length headers, otherwise there is the American brands such as cobb, TWE and OBX. If you car has the dual exhaust port ej22 the above brands models will fit. If its single port OBX has headers to suit but dont think its really worth it unless you just want more noise. When searching remember that many of the ej25's components will bolt up. The NASIOC naturally aspirated forum has a lot of information on it.

I agree with this... equal length extractors will make power gains... The Y pipe doesn't do much for smooth exhaust gas flow, but straight though mufflers will make a difference...

Make sure that the extractors and exhaust pipes you get are all the same diameter as the exhaust port... I've got a mate whose family is in the exhaust building business and this is what he keeps telling me -> people believe a larger exhaust diameter is what you need (true for turbo's to a point) but if your naturally aspirated (N/A), you need the sweet size for your engine to be most effective.

Basic principal is to create max exhaust flow with as little turbulance as possible through "lining" up the exhaust gases from each exhaust port so they don't "bump" into eachother (which is what happens with the Y pipes - also where the subie sound comes from)... Other things come into play such as the length from the exhaust port to 2 extractors joining to all extractors joining... something to do with power at what rev range or something -> this is the bit i haven't got my head around.

The extractors you'll be after should have something that has the first exhaust port (EP) in the firing order joined with the 3rd EP in the firing order, the 2nd EP with the 4th EP. So it should be (from an EA82 firing order which should be the same [also from memory]) 1st EP with 2nd EP and 3rd EP with 4th EP then some where a little further down these two pipes will join to the last part of the exhaust as a single pipe. So that would be 4 pipes to 2 pipes to 1 pipe..

Hope this make some sense

I just cut up some headers off an ej22. Discovered that the deign looks pretty crude. The two runners enter the cat at crazy angles with no form of merger pipe.

I cut the runners off before the cat and had some bloke merge them together real nicely into a 2.5inch pipe where thre cat had been. That then straight into a aftermarket commodore cat. Then 2.5 inch cat back. Not sure what the muffler is though?

It should flow quite a bit better and I can't wait to hear it.

Try to track some down in NZ, some of their Liberty/legacy models had extractors from the factory, I think it was a brighton or a 220 or something like that, Sunspares had a set and I believe it was some body from the board that ended up with them.

I think the ones grant is talking about ended up on a lifted burgundy wagon in canberra.

It has since been lowered, i know at one stage a guy by the nick of "cruiseEH" bought it. he probably knows where the headers ended up...

Sorry to drag up an older post, I just called these guys re my Liberty 95 that needs new centre pipe. Prices are approximate only, please call them if you wish to find exact prices but thought I'd update this.

These headers are 630, centre pipe inc resonator 250 and there are heaps of muffler options but something not too extravagant nor too loud is approx 300 give or take.
