Aussie cop-out

Post by AndrewT » Fri Jan 26, 2007 11:48 pm

What a joke...

During the Australia Day fireworks display, Mix 94.5 proudly broadcasted our National Anthem (some trendy modern version). Not sure if they noticed or cared that it was sung in an American accent! I wonder how many true-blue Aussies were offended by this.
I'm normally not a fan of singing in Aussie accents at all but common! At least the Anthem!

Hey, it could have been worse tim. It could have been 'sung' by the hilltop hoods..... now THAT woulda sucked.

I'm not true blue aussie, but it is pretty stupid that they throw the shit away to americans.

The Hilltop Hoods all have Aussie accents. I'd take an Aussie rapping the national anthem over an American singing it.

This instantaneous patriotism annoys me a little too. I've got two little Aussie flags that I'll be mounting on my roof racks permanently from now on. If its good enough to wave the flag on one day of the year, why not the other 364?

On a note about the sound track to the perth skyshow , we watched it on the TV when we got back from the Armadale fireworks and both Deb and I thought that the soundtrack fro the skyshow was #@^&, when we went to them years ago the soundtrack matched the fireworks so much better .

1) Next year, they should stick to the basics. Aussie stuff.

2) It was a rumour I had heard Suba, displaying the Australian flag was banned for the duration of the event, apparently to 'discourage flag-burning and the like'. I don't know.

3) You have a nice tie there. Did you get that from Mr. Bosley? Oh he does stunning work.

Sorry, I got to three and forgot what I was going to say. I had already written "3)", so why waste it? Thats some good cyberspace stuff there.

An excellent result

I have to laugh at the fact they refer to the day as "Happy Invasion Day". So true!

In Oz we should have it made a criminal offence to burn the flag, carrying a minimum 12months jail for doing so, however if you where not born in Australia the burning the flag should get you a free ticket to your country of origin for you with your passport stamped "persona non grata"

I thought we already did make it a criminal offense? If not, theres something really wrong with this country.

If someone from another country of origin burns the flag, they should be detained to this country, sentenced to 12 months in jail in Australia, banned from the country, and extradited to serve another 3 years or something for tainting their homeland's image.
