Gearbox issues. Def not a gear busted. WRONG NOW A 4SPD

Post by subarursliberty » Sun Nov 20, 2005 9:40 pm

Well in 4th and 5th maybe 3rd but it not load enough yet. I have not heard it in 1st or 2nd. I have found there to be some kind of noise when I am coasting along with no throttle. ie flats, down a hill etc. You can't hear it at all when on the throttle or with it just cracked. I presume it is bearing noise. There is not banging or clunking its just like a rattling noise but a bit loader? Its at around the 60km/h mark. Its not engine noise or anything but it could be a diff but im 90% sure its coming out of the box. Its also a 4.11 Jap spec RS box.

Anyone got some ideas of what it could be and would it be easy to fix and what sort of dollars I might be looking at? It might just be a case of finding another box.

:? maybe its the car protesting about having to 60km/h in 5th gear.
By bearing noise are you thinking throw/thrust bearing?

I'm not sure what bearings it would be. I know its some kind of bearing but which I'm not sure about.

5th gear at 60 is easy in a 4.11 box.

If you are going to spend $$ on a gearbox you should go for the 6 speed they are a sweet box

Thats just it I did nothing like dump it. Got me stuffed.

Anyhow I have foud a box and diff. So she is going back to 3.9's and the leone will get the 4.11's.

6 speed would be nice but out of budget. Straight cut not in an everyday driver. Leo is getting that.
