Ok, so Im heading south for a while, and I need to get across the Bass Strait.

I want to take my car with me, and I dont have a snorkel big enough. So, Im going by boat.

Does anyone have any info, links, or other stuff regarding said boat?

I know it takes 10 hrs, that doesnt bother me, Ill probably sleep the trip.
I need to know cost, and other stuff.

P.S. When I hit Tas, a few months later, Ill be looking for a GC regod/able MY wagon.

Yeah, I was just googling the wrong thing. I didnt know what to look for, so I was hoping google would know.

A word of advice. Im yet to hear from anyone who had a good trip sleeping on seats (ie no cabin)
Therefore, work out a way to 'wipe yourself out'

If you have time, the west coast is a must see. Trial Harbour near Zeehan is amazing. As is Mt Arrowsmith and the 99 Bends roads out of Queenstown.

Brumberty would kill me if I didn't mention the East Coast - Beyewdiful!

i have always had a good nights sleep on the boat

you cant stay with your car, so take a bag with everything u need

i recommend taking a sleeping bag and pillow and sleeping on the benches up on the top deck, can get rather cold up there so thats what the sleeping bags for

but you can also lie down on the bench seating on one of the middle decks, cant remember which one tho (just gotta remember to take your shoes off)

and take your time, cruise around, see everything you can, and come and visit the forum members, might even be able to organise a trip or two

With a long journey through moderate swell even the tough bastards can get seasick. Even if you have never been sick on the water before I recommend grabbing a box of motion sickness tablets from the chemist or if you are prone to nausea then going to a doctor for something a little stronger with a mild sedative effect. Big boats like the spirit of tasmania will develop a long and slow movement which may be imperceptable if the eyes are closed but can leave you feeling rotten for the next day.

Have fun and take some photos for us.

I can second fatz, even though i didn't know the AUSubaru forum when i was there or any of its memebers (funny that) i had a ball in a mate's subaru, it pushed me towards getting my own and now here i am trying to find time to put its engine backtogether.

Back on track, last time i went over bar prices on board were pretty much in line with onland prices, so happy sloshed i slept in my seat with the little pillow and blanket (supplied). It was a good ride, i'd like to do the trip and drinking again with some mates on board

Just did the day sail and I won't be doing it again.

Take 4xsama's advice and get Blotto, sleep and wake up in Tassie.

Night sail only unless you like 11 hours of bikies ang grey nomads
(no offence to the tatooed amongst us...or the old buggers)

I have sailed for years all over the world and it still was a nasty old motion in a 4m swell.

Its more disorienting than anything else...like having an apartment building dancing.

Better to sleep blissfully through it.

Interesting point...I had 3G phone reception all the way across!

Valid point......dont bother with optus or vodaphone in Tassie, almost no reception, Telstra only really.

Targa Tas starts soon. Whth a bit of luck you can catch a few legs of that.

I live in Perth now (ex Tassie, ex Melbourne) and miss the place dearly. I hope you have a good time down there. Might I suggest the best bits are the ones you have to yourself. Take up flyfishing and you will enjoy the best and most serene places around.

Thanks for all the help and info guys. I probably wont make it for the TT, Ive got some things up here to deal with, and Ill be taking 2 cars down (A suby, and my zuk that im not selling). Im getting a friend to drive down the zuk for me.

I intend to meet up with y'all down there, have us some camping, fishing, and I might look into a comp or 3 down there.

So yeah. Ill have fun down there.

Get blotto eh......... Not much of a drinker Im not, so it might be hard. Any other ways to get tired? Run 5 laps of the upper deck:P?
