Leone Phase 2

Post by BrennyV » Mon Feb 19, 2007 9:57 pm

Ok lads, the time has come.
I have decided to keep the leone and kick her into phase 2!!!
EJ TIME !

I have just purchased myself a 1993 liberty wagon for a donor car.

What I am asking is for help/info on what I need to do so I have all bases coverd and I can move for a smooth operation (fingers crossed)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Brendan

I take it the Liberty donor isn't worth the effort?

There's more than enough people in Perth now that know the routine. Put on a night with a BBQ and drinks and get us all around there. :D

Lemme get a list going, other people add stuff I forget...

- Swap your spare EFI fuel tank and fuel lines into the Leone (sorry Alex I think you wanted this!)
- Get somebody competent to cut down the EJ wiring loom then you can mount it in the car (best to take th guards off and run it through there into the car) - Resident EJ loom guru speak up now.... :)
Being a carby model dash you will have to hook some of the instrument wires up by tracing the wires directly up into the dashboard instead of just splicing in where the MPFI computer was but this isn't really much harder.
- EJ should bolt straight onto your engine crossmember using the EJ engine mounts.
- Get exhaust headers adapted to your exhaust (or a whole new system made up).
- Get a custom dual core radiator made up with brass end tanks and inlet/outlet pipes to match an EJ radiator. You will also need to buy a couple of good thermo fans for this. Davies Craig 12" jobbies do the trick for me!
- Get a new EA clutch with heavy duty pressure plate (or mabey just give your existing one a go if its a good one).
- Get an engine to gearbox adaptor plate.
- Get your EA flywheel to bolt onto the EJ engine (I think you can slot a few of the holes slightly or better yet drill new ones between the existing ones).
- Power steering lines *might* need the rack ends cut off and different threads soldered on if they don't fit the EA rack......my RS lines plugged straight in but im not sure if EJ22 ones do - somebody correct me.
- Some slight modification required to the gromet of the EJ accellerator cable to get it to fit through the Leone firewall I beleive.
- Cut/weld engine stay rod to suit. (easy just use half the EJ one and half the EA one or something like that).
- Might be an idea to whip the timing covers off (I think one of them is cracked from the Lib's front ender??) and have a look at the condition of the timing belt - it might need replacing. This is the best time to do it in that case.
- Get her driving then throw some new oil, filter and spark plugs into her after a few days.
- Stock bash plate wont have much hope of fitting now with the lift kit and bigger EJ sump so mabey think about a custom one before you destroy it!

Most of that should be pretty easy really. I guess the most expensive thing is the custom radiator (about $400) plus fans (about $120 each from memory).

Am I forgetting anything?

Hmm I wonder if that timing cover could be plastic-welded back together, or perhaps glued?

Otherwise I'm sure somebody has a dead EJ22 laying around somewhere just waiting for its covers to be ganked.

I have Ej22 bits and peices from my old EJ22 engine... let me know if u get stuck on anything. I actually probably have these "pulleys" your after too... since i gaffed the motor of absolutely everything before getting rid of it.

I also have advanced knowledge on the harness... i think perhaps im being refered to as the wiring guro by andrew.

Dave
EJ conversion wiring harness cut downs available. Please PM or email ([email protected]) for details.
