Why a Subi?

I tried to rationalise why I drive a Subi (Brumby) to my mates and I always come up with the same points.

1) Mechanically Simple = reliable,
2) Good size,
3) Practical,
4) Individual (not an SS or XR whatever ute), and,
5) 4X4 without the 'Get the f##k outa my way' attitude.

Horses for courses but am I the only one who likes them from an engineering or practical point of view?

The old cheese has an Impreza. Just insert 4x4 for grrrrip. It's an absolute hoot on the twisties. In the wet it's unstappable.

Interested to hear what you all think (in 5 points prefferably)

bout the same for me.... and when you put a wrx engine in an old suby, you flog the hell out of the ss's and xr's:)

I've had my brumby 2 &1/2 years now it was is my first car. All my mates paid me out they had vitaras, ford utes and pajeros. They said it was crap and i said it was more reliable then all of theirs put together. So far my car has never broken down yet all of theirs cost them a fortune. Im still laughing to this date cause they don't pay out the old subas anymore.

Great ute, great reliability going to keep mine till subaru bring out a new model brumby

i get payed out ALOT by my mates(mainly cos im obssesed with the beast), but when we go off-road and there's a massive hill, and they go.."no way dude, your dreaming" and then i absolutely cream the hill, that shuts em up real good!

also, just the look of disbelief when we are offroad, people going wtf are you doing out here with that!...

also when you get the thumbs up from wrx drivers, that pretty cool!

and when other suby drivers in general give ya the thumbs up, i love it!

a nice example was when the ranger at the camping trip looked and mikes and my liberty's and said how the holy **** did u get those 2 cars in here

I've always felt I've had to justify my liking of Subarus to my mates. My wagon has been through that many stages of modification that its never been the same car for too long, and that in itself has been the factor thats won them over on it.

I considered buying a Brumby a while back. I decided a ute was practical for various reasons and I considered Brumby, VS SS, VU SS, AU XR8 and BA XR6. As you can see from my sig I ended up with the Barra, and personally I feel this is by far the best car in that list. No it doesn't offer me any offroad ability (mind you its been down a track I wouldn't attempt in 2WD in the Subaru) but its quiet, smooth and has enough grunt. The Holdens, particularly the VS, are a joke. Someone needs to send Holden a beginners guide to NVH.

So while I agree on the general idea, Subarus are great, I do prefer my much newer and more comfortable Ford barge. Subaru need to make a new Brumby I think, and if they don't I'll have to make one.

Reasons for Ruby Scoo (L series wagon) =
1) practial for me
2) easy to work on/mod/make individual
3) economical
4) 4wd (this started me on 4wding)
5) a mate had one and showed me what it could do (not real serious stuff, but it caught my attention)

Subaru do need to make a new version of the brumby, its the only thing missing from their line up but it has to be a typical brumby that can handle some sh*t and is simple in design.
