ea82 and 82t differances
can somebody tell the exact differences between these motors visually i mean and are the earlier ones different to the later ones (ie can you fit a later spider manifold to an older motor....reason is ive aquired one one and the only thing i can see different is the inlet ports on the head everything else looks the same.....also it doesnt have a manifold so id like to put a spider type one on it....cheers clint

So you have a spider manifold and you want to put it on the motor in your car? What motor do you have?
There were 3 versions of the EA82 avaliable in Australia
-Carby'd... which has one inlet and exhaust port per head.
-MPFI and MPFI Turbo... which has 2 inlet and one exhaust port per head.
Basically the EA82 MPFI and the EA82T are the same motor, the only differences being:-
-EA82T has lower compression 7.7:1
-It has a different camshaft (intake opens earlier)
-Has coolant and oil ports on the drivers side head
-It has a turbo, which is an IHI RHB5 VF4 (VF7 in USA)
There are two electrical systems, read Differences between 3Plug and 4Plug ECU's
Your spider manifold was avaliable on MPFI and Turbo Vortex's. Im pretty sure that it was only avaliable to the 4plug models (87-94) but if you are tricky, the electrical can be adapted. They bolt up to all MPFI and TURBO motors, not CARBY
Hope this clears things up

apparently the throttle position sensor works differently between spider manifold and normal efi tps but has been rejigged to work by someone in here.
Block differences include a pcv plate at the back of the block behind flywheel/flexplate and a large 16mm vent pipe abpve comes out top of block close to back on the driver side block.

All MPFI (including turbo). Note that the knock sensor is different for 4-plug ecu to 3-plug ecu too.jono wrote:oh and a knock sensor...did all mpfi have them or only turbo?? screws in to the left of pcv vent pipe

and you do not need to wire it up.subanator wrote: Note that the knock sensor is different for 4-plug ecu to 3-plug ecu too.
Oh and waggaclint i can not remember if your is a MPFI or carb, and if you know that if its a carb motor then the fuel tank, fuel lines ecu, etc will require changing as well, which make this conversion a much bigger job.
Toyota 105 Series LandCruiser (that nobody on here wants to really hear about).
RX Touring Wagon - fitted out for 4WDing (currently collecting dust).
RX Project - will be road only at this stage (and currently taking way to long to finish).

Further query regarding EA82T , how do you tell what year it was made. I have a AX7 model from a turbo vortex.Suparoo wrote:So you have a spider manifold and you want to put it on the motor in your car? What motor do you have?

I agree. My 1989 MPFI Leone Royale has no knock sensor....Suparoo wrote:Im pretty sure that only the Turbo's had a knock sensor, My mpfi doesnt have a knock sensor.

yeah mines a carb model..ill just chase up a complete efi tank...as for wiring im gonna run a microtec (i can get a good deal on em) it will be easier that way....going off what everybody has been saying the motor i have is a turbo one so thats good anyway just gotta pull it apart now and see how good it is one timing belt is missing so someone has been playing around hopefully the motor is all repairable if anything is broken time will tell anyway...BlackMale wrote:
