Rear end mods... rear whole diff?

Post by vladrulli » Fri Mar 16, 2007 2:27 am

what do people think of swaping out the rear end of the subi for a whole diff out of some other awd or rwd car or meybe even a small jeep/suv? that way I'll end up with a stronger rear end, better/bigger brakes, a nice bolt pattern and a good opportunity to modify the rear suspension (lower the car for better street handling)...

I know I can swap in the front end suspension out of an impreza without too much difficulty but I always get stranded when thinking about the rear end...

cutting off the rear hubs and welding in a whole diff should not be too much work... possibly a custom fuel tank will be needed but that's something that can be done without too much thinking...

has somebody done this before? is this a good or a bad idea?

Ive seen pictures of an XT6 with solid axles, like out of a toyota 4wd. i think they basically put the XT6 shell of the toyota chassis

If these things are using basically a Nissan R160 diff what about an R180 in its place ? I guess I should ask which part of the rear end is giving you problems .

Cheers A .
