here's are lifting question for you:
how high does it need to be for offroading? the most common lift from what i can find is the 3" lift. this seems pretty good but isn't a 3" lift technically illegal? how do you guys get around this? is the chance of getting busted pretty slim? or to minimise the risk, would a 2" lift suffice for my off roading needs?

in most states 2" is legal,,, but it seems quite easy to pass off with a 3" lift...but dont take that for granted...all it takes is a speeding fine and suddenly a yellow sticker... but 2" is fine...some of the best offroaders here in wa only have 2" lift and road tyres....

always takes a newbie question to uncover a wealth of information that should really be written down somewhere (like the wiki :P ) but isn't...
if only i had some spare time i'd nominate myself wiki-filler and start asking lots of useful questions and then formatting the answers nicely for posterity.
ah well. at least, as noted, everybody's always happy to help out
can anybody verify (through having checked it themselves or passing muster with a authority run-in) that 2" is actually legal in WA ?
I've just been over the pits twice to get my '84 registered, and slipped a random question in about lift kits and was flatly told that NO lift kit is legal in the 'whack it on' sense... and that for any lift kit you had to get an engineer's certification that the car was still as "safe" as it was when it was stock... as I would have expected for a far more crazy mod than a lift kit.
What about the engine swaps? Does every MY/EJ swap need an engineering cert? Are 90% of this forum flying by the seat of their pants, under the radar ?
EDIT: Just found BvCP's sticky re: EA81/82 mods in the performance section. Lift legality question stands though.
