hmm could be...

- play in the steering rack
- play in the tierod ends
- wheel bearings worn
- loose castle nut
- loose brake caliper

I had those problems all at once when I first got my old 85 wagon!

Don't forget the loose wheel nuts! But you should hear this in a straight line if its bad enough, or at speed if you've got a keen ear...

I've been living with a clunk for years now with my L, usually at full lock either direction. Now my steering rack has some play in the ball end of the rack on each arm - not the tie rod end. Makes for some fun when you're towing a load or trying to get someone to do an alignment. Doesn't matter as I'm getting PS soon.

Cheers

clunk

The noise can be spring clash as i had this mine.Slow turns on full lock and the spring makes a clunk against the lower part of the strut as it unloads and loads.try spray grease(moly or even motorcycle chain oil)on the bottom of the spring where it seats and see if it stops it.If it does use rubber strip or split a poly hose and use on the bottom and this stops it.It doesnt hurt anything but is bloody annoying when you get the clunks..
