new cv boot torn
new cv boot torn
Just fitted a new driver's side inner CV boot (to my '89 L series MPFI with 3" lift) on the weekend and after two days normal driving its torn again! Could I have done something wrong when I fitted it ? I wouldn't have thought so as I had no problems fitting it. Could something be loose that may rub on the boot? I have checked but can't find anything. I do have a bit of a 'clunk' noise when I apply the brakes at very low speeds, like in a carpark that I haven;t got to the bottom of yet.
Any ideas appreciated.
Cheers

the brakes can jsut be worn bushes in supsension side of things.
drive slowly and jeep repeatadley pressing brakes then if you hear clunking each time fairly loud then id be looking at ur bushes especialyl control arms.
with the boot u didnt stretch it out way to far when u put the clips on did u so it couldnt take the stretching very well. other than that there has to be something wrong a new one wont tear after 2 days..might after about 5 years lol

Hasn't slipped off and I clamped on the grooves where they sit, so it shouldn't be stretched.
Didn't really think of the cheap quality thing. Just bought them from the local parts shop which I've got stuff from before and they have a good reputation. But now I've looked at the box and the brand is 'A1 Automotive Parts' which does sound a bit cheap. Anyone heard of this brand? I'll ring the shop tomorrow and talk to them about it.
In regards to front suspension bushes (ie lower control arm, leading rods & sway bar), should I just get standard rubber ones or nolathane?
Thanks for your help!!

nolathane is way better imo.
and for boots i would go for Kelpro i reckon they r good but the ones from repco we get alot for customers cars and havent had any complaints yet
i have heard of A1 Automotive Parts aswell but also thought they were a cheap brand and have never seen advertising for them so they seem not very well known and basically a non-reputable brand
(first time i heard of them was when i got given an oil filter for free for my sisters corolla but i didnt want to fit it as had never heard of them before so i opted for Ryco)
