Gearbox Upgrade

Post by bluesteel » Thu Jul 12, 2007 1:27 pm

i have a 98wrx with ppg 1 and 2 straight cuts in it with standard rest of the box

yesterday 3rd gear decided it didnt like me any more and shed all its teeth Image

now im thinking i will go for the ppg helical 3 and 4 to fix the poroblem

but while im there i was looking at the billet selector forks, as people say thats the next thing to go

also has anyone had any experience with the torsen front lsd that ppg are selling? im getting a bit over frying a front wheel around corners

cheers

most people now who setup a ppg box for the 5MT boxes are running cut boxes with the 1st and 2nd straight and 3rd and 4th helical sets. the billit forks are a deff spesh when ur putting that much money into the box. i would go for mrt's upgraded centre diff to sort out ur front bias in the driveline, it will make a noticable diffence.

I think the problem he's having is one front wheel going light and spinning .
If thats the case then the options are increasing the vehicles roll stiffness or use some sort of limited slip device in the front diff . You have to remember that the Imp/Lib type transmission is basically permanent front wheel drive and torque limited RWD via the viscous coupling on the output shaft . The worst case scenerio is if one front and one rear are spinning because neither front or rear diffs are LSD .

Out of time and more tomorrow , cheers A .
