Auto Box's???
what are peoples opinions on auto box's performing off road in different conditions, ie sand, rock climbing etc
just contemplating different conversion options, thinking about the 4.44 auto with lockable centre in my ute.

Have this setup myself.AWESOME in one word.It just creeps along no probs ,no lack of power. You can start on a incline from a stand still.Less chance of bending control arms etc as you don't need to take a run up and bounce over things.I have the vtd transfer ,you don't need to lock the centre but you do know when it is on,good for going down hills.

I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

I have seen Postie's beast in action with this box - very impressive.the_postie wrote:Have this setup myself.AWESOME in one word.It just creeps along no probs ,no lack of power. You can start on a incline from a stand still.Less chance of bending control arms etc as you don't need to take a run up and bounce over things.I have the vtd transfer ,you don't need to lock the centre but you do know when it is on,good for going down hills.

I haven't had any issues with mine on off road terrain, assuming you will have at least a 2.2 you'll be laughing.vidler wrote:sounds like a goer to me. ever had issues not having the hi/lo range option or never needed it?
I have had some troubles with my auto box on sand, but that may have been due to me running on retreads. can felt boggy and couldn't get the revs up. Not just blaming that on the box though, there was a couple of other reasons that i factor in.
The auto box with the 4.44 is a really comfy ratio for crawling along, and the VTD center certainly helps a lot. Have only needed to use it 2 or 3 times, but it did get me out of trouble.
Also has "hold" feature(starts you in second gear) as well as "overdrive" or "power" switch which also is a added bonus to the powerful box.
Nearly impossible to kill the box, your diff and tailshaft will go first;) trust me.
