Hids

Post by fredsub » Mon Aug 27, 2007 11:40 am

new topic, as that other topic is about Halogens not HIDS!!
so get it off your chest here!

Anyway I think this reply says it all doesn't it:mad:

Sure one difference between hi and low beam is where its aimed, and trouble is roads are never perfectly flat, undulations in the road are common,
So there you have it, those bast***s with HIDS are aiming the high beam at ya and blinding you........

I don't know what it is, but you really must concentrate so that your eyes don't automatically divert to look at the oncoming traffic and the lights.
I have a slight nite time glare issue since laser correction to eyes,....its a very common problem which your told about beforehand, not much of an issue un till these HID lights are so common.

Also I don't understand why you need them in the suburbs....theres street lighting everywhere for gods sake!!

Don't get me wrong HIDS are a great technology, I put them in some flood lights, 3.5amp consumption vs 10+amp for a 100w halogen...so I feel more relaxed using it camping. I might put them in the fog lights too, for better lighting to the sides for those outback trails at night........
But I don't think they are right for driving lights.

As per most euro / jap cars fitted with hid's they come with auto levellers for the projector optic unit making glare minimal and keeping a even ride height. I run these in my motette lights and besides mates with lowered cars i have had no complaints.

Is this just a whinge thread ? Seems like it.
After my recent trips into the never never I'm waiting on some HID kits for my driving lights.

I think you have miss understood Freds point.
Reading between the lines, replacing the halogen with HID globes is an improvement in light brightness, but using them in the standard lamp housing the lglass diffuser doesnt focus the beam properly and ends up just looking like a fluro light. Fred has pointed out that the light is pointed up, but this is caused by the diffuser's glass not focusing.
Note the rear focusing style lights in later model vehicles that don't have this effect, and the beam is more directed.
