I am. the bonnet that is on it currently is my original one. I have a new one put away for it that is the correct color and it will go on once th car is FULLY sorted.
I put a post on rexnet a month or so ago and they liked it once they realised what it was and what was under it.
theres still another $2k to spend on it sorting out the cooling and exhaust side of it. (custom alloy radiators ar NOT cheap!) before I can really drive it. it will be moveable after next week. this means I can start it and move it out of the way which will be a plus.
mor pics as Iget time to do them.

they are MY99 jap impreza rims. I bought them in white of a rexnet member a yr and a bit ago. 5 stud so unless you want to go to a LOT of effort of swapping stud patterns they probably wont fit. as it is the rears JUST (40mm.) clear the main suspension mounts.Bumpty wrote:VERY VERY nice/neat looking wagon!
What are those rims called?? i like them.
needs lowering in the rear but I'll worry about that once I get everything else sorted. I reckon a call to KMAC will fix that. front is easy as it is legacy BG5.

to be honest all I was going to do originally was drop a carby engine in it and drive it. then I asked where anyjap was as they had a legacy GTB there and it snowballed from there.
EJ driveline was in front of me and I knew from my previous car that brakes weren't going to hold that much power so the brakes got done by product was a 5 stud swap. donor had ABS/TRC so there was no point tossing that out so in that went.( with a LOT of effort in the rear end!) cut didnt come with brake rotors so I bought new ones and did the rears as well.
wheels came up on rexnet for cheap so I grabbed those late one night - think they were up for 2-3 hours before I bought them.
was talking to robin today about it and he said that no one puts that much effort into building a car.
neat thing about it is that with half an exhaust on it ( the dump pipes are on there and thats it. ) the car is no louder at idle than a standard WRX. (started it today and it was clang free.) need to clean the injectors as it is running on 3 cyl but still idles quite well.
hopefully by the 6th it will be sitting here in the workshop where I can fully sort the electrics (its a literal rats nest in the drivers floor.) so I can run it to a few shops and then back to robin to get it plated so I can register it.
no real pics of it that you haven't already seen. gearbox crossmember was a custom item after all (I'll take a pic of it when I'm under it next.) and the box mounts came from NZ. ($160NZ)
for those that do EJ swaps from a halfcut - KEEP THE DONOR VIN PLATE it makes getting parts a LOT easier.
yes its getting closer - I've got my eye on PPQ for a set of plates to put on it. ( OLG-720 = L GT2 for those interested.) if its done by DEC then I'll run it to the BBQ for a bit.

this will make more sense with a pic. its a 2x4" box section with RHS welded on the ends punched in the appropriate spots for the mounts and the car. looks quite neat.
radiator I have yet to fit. think I'm going to section another car and make that top rail a bolt in. will be easier to mount the thing. as for the rest it all works. still unsure on the OE fans as I need operating temperaure to check them.

can't find my card reader!
drove the car today (2min no radiator.) shifts gears fine - got to 3rd wasn't going to try for 4th, had a boost leak which I fixed on the spot but for the most part it drives and stops. need to adjust the handbrake. all teh handbrake cables clear the driveshaft so its on to electricals and neatening all of that up. oil guage I need to do but thats going to involve a bracket and rubber hose.
looks like DEC drive time roughly.

got some electrical done tonight.
legacy harness (internal) is 90% stubbed in. need to fix up the ECU power feeds/relays that is still short and sits under the brake pedal!
I can see what gear (on dash) I an in and the pwr/ hold switches/lights work.
abs/trc is connected now. NO REVERSE LIGHTS!!!! (WHY?????)

some pics:

I/cooler in place - had a boost leak at that point. I had just connected the accelerator and found it.

took it for a VERY quick run up PMS's complex to verify gear changes. had a ear to ear smile at that stage. (IE everything worked!!) backed it in beside my van to fix a loose vac line.

custom trans x/member with OE mounts ($170 new from subaru NZ.)

I backed it into that spot and left it for the towie to get.. the brumby next to it is EJ powered as well. the bill for the two weeks there was just under $1k.

wiring 90% sorted at that point. tach works. still need to sort a few of the dash lights and work out where/what I'm doing for an ABS light.

another shot of it.. sorting out A/C wiring at that point. really can't finish that bit until its all together.
waiting on ARE (brendale) to get back to me on the radiator for it (there is another $1200.) it will be a shorter version of the Legacy item as I understand.
no video of it in action. no point as I can't run it long enough currently. I move it in and out of the workshop and thats it.
