Give RAC a ring , last I heard they were doiing rego licencing checks for the pits ,Welshpool is a nightmare to get through , you can wait anything up to 4 hours there, definatly give RAC a ring.
You can also make bookings at the kelmscott branch of the licencing department , a booking is the way to go so you don't have to wait.
Mike.

i did this when moving to perth....if youve lived here for 3 months or plan on living here more then 3 months u must transfer...otherwise i big penalty applies....and trust me when they have their ways of finding out....we got into some serioes **** when we didnt transfer our 100 series cruiser over for 12 months...big fine. i aggree with mike on this one..give rac a call and or kelmskott for a booking....they all not too harsh....just make sure the car is not a heap or it wont work...
even if u keep it on tassie rego even to sell a car over here it needs to be transferred to wa plates before it can actually be sold..thats how we went through this whole issue

From what i've heard WA is the easiest state to pass a car over the pits out of all of them.
Certainly is has been very easy in my experience. Very very lax and very dependant on which guy you happen get etc.
If it drives okay, lights work, horn works, brakes work then they pretty much pass anything.
Edit - good example of getting lucky with inspectors...
Jaffa had great difficulty passing his wagon over the pits due to his Lift Kit - a 2" complete with engineering certificate. Eventually with lots of convincing etc it was okay.
On the other hand Subi Matt passed his current wagon over with barely a mention to the lift kit. 3" with no engineering cert.
Infact Subi Matt also passed his previous wagon over the pits....and I beleive some components of the lift kit were made of wood! (don't quote me on that though).
