20 - 21OCT -> 4 Wheelin Axedale/Eppalock area... Who's in?
Hey Subi nuts from Vic!
Been thinking of going out for a weekend 4wding and would love to have a few other subi 4 wheelin fans with me. Location would be the same as what i reported here (dial up warning).
Currently the dates are the 20th and 21st October 2007 (can come up friday nite to get an early start saturday), this fits in nicely with uni and other activities. We could either camp out, day trip for those who only want to come for a day, or set up the tent in my backyard (i'm about 30mins from these places).
I'm yet to get some new recovery gear, namely a winch but should have it sorted by then (any 1 know when the next supercheap sale is on?), just incase...
Post here and let us know, i think this'd give us plenty of time to get our sh1t sorted.
There may be a rangie hanging out with us (don't worry, he likes subi's - taught me how to 4wd)...
Anyone interstate that would like to come is more than welcome too.
Cheers
Bennie

No worries Kris, that makes two now, including myself... lol I'll get it organised for meeting points etc.
Do you want to camp out or crash in benders?
And my ride is of standard lift, not that its been a real problem so far. I'm also very open to trying out tracks i've never been down...
A question about the wombat suby club trip, "outsiders" allowed to attend?
Cheers

Okay guys,
This week i hope to be getting some maps that i should beable to post here (fingers crossed). I'm not sure what day that will occur, but keep an eye out.
Insurance - i'm not taking out any public liability, i want all participants to know that this trip is at your own risk. Sorry to put it in bold and place a negative vibe on this posting, but i feel that it has to be said for some reason or other. I have my own vehicle insurance and i hope that others participating are likewise.
For those who don't have a 4wd subi but would still like to come, i would encourage you to come, even if you just want to sit around camp and read a book all day. I have a spare seat or two in my subi that are up for grabs, i'm sure if you asked nicely other members would too. The camp site can be reached easily with a standard 2wd subi - if its dropped on its guts i would not recommend using that subi to get there.
Lets hope for some rain closer to the date, will make things interesting/more fun than they already should be.
Cheers

Okay, so i can't work out how to get the maps i want to see here.
But: I can give you a site and some instructions that will give you a rough idea of where its located. It is very rough...
http://services.land.vic.gov.au/maps/interactive.jsp
In the "Suburb/Town/Locality" type kimbolton
Click on the map where the Redesdale-Bendigo Road intersects the boundary of the kimbolton area, this will zoom in.
If you have a whole heap of properties and lines all over the place, go to the "build map" tab. Under the "Rural Areas" heading, De-select "property", "Parcel" and "address"
We will be camped somewhere near the bottom of the shape that Comer Track and Girvan Road creates.
If you then play around with the "build map" featues such as rivers/streams and contours, you should beable to get an idea of the area if you can read maps like this. Note that road names disappear with contours until you get in closer, then the roads disappear but the names stay...
Dodgy i know, but its just a rough idea. I hope to be doing a recki out there thursday or friday.
Type in "Axedale" in the town/locality area, click just inside the pointy area on the top left of the Axedale area, this will zoom in. Place the contours on in the build map section, this will allow you to see mt sugarloaf. This will be one of the areas we'll visit. Have a play and see what you can find, i don't have time, class has started.
Sorry is so dodgy, but its the best i have at the moment.
We may need to bring wood, i'll let you know, unless we'll just eat off a bbq (anyone bringing one?)
Also, who exactly is coming? We can meet up at the Junction Hotel at Ravenswood on the Calder Hwy just out of bendigo. We'll then convoy from there. Time, what time suits people best on the 19th? If anyone is coming saturday morning we'll have to meet at the Lake Eppalock Kiosk, its on the Redesdale-Bendigo road just near the big dog-leg on the map.
Let me know how you go with the maps and the other questions.
Cheers

Google Earth
Also check out Google earth. Its better with the roads, might also give you an idea of where to go.
Easiest way to find it with this is to go to the western side of Lake eppalock, its a little south of the lake... I'm sure you'll work it out anyway...
Let me know if there's any problems.
My mobile is 0421 184 031.

Hey Guys,
Unfortunately I cannot make it, we're moving this weekend and dont have the time to have the weekend off and I have to help my father in law to move as well so next time, I'm disappointed that I can't make it, but next time! And have fun and take a couple of pictures and post it up in here when you get back!

Sorry to hear you can't make it. I'm surprised you had to say this ^... Its a givenAlpineRaven wrote:And have fun and take a couple of pictures and post it up in here when you get back!

And i got bored so did a recki last night... The roads i was telling you about were correct. There's a few more inbetween but if we're all convoying it'll be sweet.
There's little wood in the area so a scavenger hunt may be in order. Hope for some rain closer to the time to make it a little more interesting, not that its boring or anything but i like a bit of mud on my car...
We'll also have to bring in our own water as there are no sources nearby and i wouldn't be drinking from lake eppalock...
No worries Kris, i'll keep an ear out for your call. I hope there'll be more cars coming, currently the total is three.
I'll put a post up in the subaru chat with a link to this thread, might have someone near the border who's interested...
Cheers

Got maps!
A lecturer gave me the idea of looking up the CFA trails map book in the uni library. If i could borrow it (can't - its a refernce book only) i'd have the maps up as soon as i get my computer back tomorrow. I don't think the library has a scanner...
So those maps will be coming with me on the trip for our reference (photocopies), i've marked stuff on them for easier finding of places/features.
Anything else I should've done already/missed?
