Vic has had the bans since July this year. Love it!julian wrote:Only a few days to go before ALL pubs, clubs etc go smoke free for good in South Australia. Although I can't wait to see what my favourite night spots are like without choking acrid smoke, I think the scene is likely to have a very different feel.
Has any other state (or territory) moved to do the same thing, and if they have then what is it like? What was the transition like?
How good is it coming home not smelling like an ash-tray?vincentvega wrote: you will find it really strange the first few times you go out and the air is clear and clean and you dont stink like an ashtray when you get home!!
I was in adelaide the other week, we went out at the bay for the nite and it made us realise how good the non-smoking laws were. Another group of people rocked up about 5 minutes from us, they saw the ash trays on the tables, grabbed them and started dancing around the table waving them in the air while screaming "They've got ash trays inside! YEAH!!" We figured they were from Vic...
Then we found out its november 1st or near there that the laws come into effect in SA...
Hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
Bennie
I was just trying to gauge the sultural effects that might result from this transition, thats why I started this thread.
Now I am looking forward to it; not smelling like an ashtray and blowing grotty-nicotine infused crud out of my nose the morning after. And no more cigarette burns in expensive suede jackets...

People who smoke and "can't quit" are weak. You know its killing you (among numerous other negatives), man up and try harder. Addictions can be overcome by will power and gradual reduction. Try joining a quit group, try the gum or patches - do something!
People who smoke and don't try to quit are just plain stupid.
People who try to justify smoking or say it isn't harmful are even stupider.
I welcome the bans in pubs etc, any step towards a total ban is a good one I say.
Just my opinon(s), sorry to all the smokers on here!
I'm not an addict myself but two of my uncles are. Both are suffering from a raft of respiratory problems. And they stink.

a while ago, I'd have said, if your a smoker, try to smoke another pack a day:twisted: ( as long as I didn't need to smell it - I don't touch em myself, never have)
Greed you see:-D. But I was beginning to think it was morally bankrupt...so sold...besides the returns weren't as good anymore....
At the end of the day thats what its about...money....thats why there is nicotine in them, so its difficult to get off them.
Its not that
I grew up disliking clubs/pubs because of the smoke. Its incredible to now be able to have a dinner in a club without the smoke stench drifting from the gaming area - air conditioning, no matter how good they think it is, just doesn't help.

Thinking of it logically personally, its difficult to see of any argument For smoking though isn't it?People who smoke and "can't quit" are weak.
