Help!! Clutch don't fit!

Post by PeeJay » Thu Nov 08, 2007 6:22 pm

Apparently what I have here is a flywheel off a 2003 Forester XS with hydraulic clutch.

And here is the pressure plate, I know I've been given the right model, I've checked.

But the bolt holes on the pressure plate are spaced about 6-8 mm wider than the flywheel??

Is it possible I've been given a flywheel from either a turbo or a cable clutch car??

Hm well wether the clutch is operated by cable or hydraulic doesn't really dictate the actual clutch type.
My push-type clutch is the same as the ones in cable-operated Liberties, but it came from an Outback which happens to use a Hydraulic system.

If you had been given the right model then it would fit....so this means if you've bought a pressure plate to suit a 2003 Forester XS with hydraulic clutch, and you are absolutely sure it's the right one, then the flywheel you have is actually some other one.

Best bet would be to bring the pressure plate back to where you got it and this time bring the flywheel in with you...

You need an EJ22 na fly wheel or sti fly wheel. Bolt pattern is the same. We happened to find this out in just the last 2 weeks. Same problem, new pressure plate would not bolt to a hydraulic turbo fly wheel. I had an sti one here that has the bolt pattern about 6-8 mm further out and it fitted the clutch.

When we took the EJ22 out of the mates car we tried the clutch on it. Guess what, same bolt pattern as the sti.

Brilliant! Thanks for that!

I guess that's what happens when you buy gearboxes from ebay!

I was just looking at the pic of yours fly wheel again. The bolt pattern "looks" to be even closer in than the one we had. If you can get a centres measurement across the fly wheel, I will do the same and then you can compare.

I just went out and measured them. One is approx 262mm centre and the other is 257mm.
