I think i broke my turbo - Turbo header Upgraded!

Post by Gannon » Sat Dec 29, 2007 12:16 pm

Was driving out of woolies carpark and i heard a squeeling noise and then..... no boost.

On the drive home i cant make any boost at all, no whistling sounds and no flutter. I have troubles.

Looks like my TF035 project will be sooner than expected

In the process of removing the turbo....

The turbine is jammed still and there is a lot of oil in the turbo-intake plenum.
But i never noticed any smoke out the tailpipe

Its been running fine all week, Except for an issue with fuel pressure, but that shouldnt cause it.

I have a progress shot with the TF035 and Lib WAIC in place.

Just need a few bits and pieces to make it work. Mainly an EA82 MPFI intake plenum (i butchered mine for another project and it wont do the job) and an elbow to connect the Airbox/AFM to the compressor inlet. I think the one off an early EJ20T will do it. The ones where the air intake didnt go under the manifold.

ive just completed the td04 swap onto my ea82t. thats exactly how my stocker turbo died. no smoke or anything.
my advice to you for this swap is get wrx up and down pipes- they are cheap - these will help for the flanges and also make your up pipe fatter ;) if you get these pipes extended too so turbo sits up higher it will be easier to connect up afm.
another thought for here is to get a pod filter if it makes it easeir to fit up.

Ok here are some progress shots.

i have upgraded my pipe size to 2" that will allow more flow and thus better preformance.

After a lot of cutting, hammering and swearing,.... here is the result.

I have installed the pipe, just had to loosen an engine mount and lift the engine an inch. The turbo fits nicely an clears the throttle cable.
The oil feed and retrun line up prefectly

Can i use heater hose for my oil return or is it a special type of hose?

Coolant lines also meet up, just need to extend the top coolant hose.
