Are these GEM engines? If so they're exchange, ie they need an old one back.spudley wrote:see i work at supercheap (please, no criticism) but we have a shitload of of engines that we can order in and anyway i get a 25% discount of anythin i order in
Not worth the trouble, even with the discount. I work for a reputable auto parts business in WA and I'll tell you now - no point in fluffing around getting stuff like this through work when you can just go get the entire front half of a car off your local importer. Much much easier.
As far as big power upgrades go on Brumbys, the best option is a conversion. The word implies changing the vehicle to suit something else, so realistically if you want a Brumby that goes hard you're going to have to change a lot of things.
I've really only been in the Subaru scene for a short time myself, nearly 5 years, and in that time I've done nearly everything conceivable to the MY series. I'm about to EJ16 convert my lovely stock-as-a-rock Leone sedan, my first NA EJ conversion and I'll be letting the board know all about it. I'm swapping out the now dead EA81 motor for an MPFI EJ16. Basically I'm losing 200cc in the process but there will be gains, multipoint injection, 16 valves and 1000 more revs. Best of all it should bring better economy.
Long story short if you want to step up from the EA81 there is a lot of work involved. If you want the EA to go a bit harder it's quite simple but if you want to go to the next level expect a lot of headaches.
