burning smell

Post by dallas » Fri Jan 18, 2008 4:01 pm

I was stuck in a tight spot in some sand and when trying to reverse, she started to smoke and hence have a oil burning smell. Is this normal ?

It got out fine, but the smell is a bit worrying.

Have a forester x 96 model. Was fine in forward gears, I think I may have overdone it.

Any advice?

Still sounds like clutch to me.
Toyota 105 Series LandCruiser (that nobody on here wants to really hear about).
RX Touring Wagon - fitted out for 4WDing (currently collecting dust).
RX Project - will be road only at this stage (and currently taking way to long to finish).

Burning smell is usually clutch when worked hard. Once it cools it should be OK depending how much of a thrashing you gave it. Has the smell stopped now?

dallas, what's the go with running two threads about the same topic? Is this your way of getting a second opinion?
