running on problem

Post by brumbyrunner » Sun Jan 27, 2008 7:44 am

I cranked my old silver sports brumby up yesterday after sitting for many months:(
After it warmed up I switched it off and the engine ran on. I thought it might come good so I started and stopped it a few times but it still ran on.
Then I checked the timing and was sitting on 8' but while I watched, it dropped to 7'. Then I switched it off and the motor stopped as normal. The problem continued to be variable all afternoon. Sometimes it ran on, other times it was normal.
Is my vacume advance sticking or something else?
Don't play around with these things much anymore so I'm a bit rusty.

the grease in the dissy could have gone sticky, making the advance mechanism stick. Used to get this in my Laser.

go for a run and put some new fuel in as well. give the inside of the dissy a spray with wd40 as well

I've been playing with the vacume advance and it is very slow to react. I might pull it out and give everything a good clean up.

Might have got the dissy sorted now.

New problem. It does'nt want to start cold. Hit the key first time and it fires straight up for about a couple of seconds then cuts out. Then wont fire again at all untill you pour some fuel into the carby. You can hear the fuel pump running so it's not that. I thought it might be the acelerater plunger in the carby.
Any ideas?
