Wa Ufo.

Post by Thalass » Sun Feb 10, 2008 10:27 pm

This was pointed out to me a little while ago, and I find it very interesting. It's supposed to be a UFO, found in the Australian Outback on google earth. Here's the link to the original article.

I find this very interesting - it's probably just something ordinary - but after doing some looking around in google earth, I found it. Turns out it's less than 200km from perth! 182km from the Roe Hwy/Great Northern Hwy intersection.

While I'm no crazy UFO nut or anything, I find it very interesting. And it's not far from here! Have any of you guys been through this area? Seen anything interesting? It's probably just one of those glitches you see in satellite photos all the time - like the flying car near the Swan River - but having had a look at the area (from the sky) it looks like an alright short trip, but then I've never been there so it could be boring as hell.

(Looking again, it looks like there's some kind of strip mining thing going on there, so it's probably related to that.

Nonetheless, has anyone seen anything interesting out that way - or on any other trip?

I'm pretty sure it's not a UFO. There is no shadow, so it's not flying, and if it was normally they'd be moving and the image would not be clear. I reckon it's some kind of survey mark, or else a small area cleared for exploration and drilling, the colours you see being the sand drilled up from underneath. It appears to be on top of a hill and is almost exactly 100m along each side, I am also a bit suss on the colour of the image, as you can see from nearby images there is a major colour difference. I think you should just drive up there and have a look, I bet it is still there. Image was from 2004 though.

Of course, being the inquisitive person I am I did some research and found that the area is a Titanium minerals mine (at Cooljarloo). The mine produces a heavy mineral concentrate that is processed at a mineral separation plant in WA to produce ilmenite, rutile, zircon and leucoxene.

I have emailed the company in hopes of an answer ;)

Hate to spoil the fun and be a myth buster, but I think its just a radio tower mast (see line shadow), and supported by 3x guy wires. Maybe fenced around to stop stock getting in close, hence the change of ground colour.

i think subinator is right

has anyone got involved in searching for confluences. (the points where longitude and latitude meet) there is a website register that you can register on and then go and find them.

You mean any arbitrary location? Or specific 45°S-45°E kind of locations?

Yeah looking at it again a HF radio mast would make sense, with the fenced off area having a chance to grow some grass away from the cows and/or roos.
